Has Turtle Wax stopped making rinse free wash and wax?

From a larger company like turtle wax that markets specifically to the masses rather than the pro or enthusiast, I'm surprised they ever released a rinseless product in the first place.

How long would it take for the average Joe in a mudded up truck or other heavily soiled vehicle to give the product a bad name? Would it get to the lawsuit level when average people ask heavy damage to their vehicles?

The masses can't handle it yet.

Bingo, this is exactly what I think. IMO, are culture has bred this kind of stuff with all the lawyer commercials on tv saying "hey were you stupid and hit yourself in the head with a shovel because you were playing lawn darts with it, well if so we can sue...." So you get an ignorant person that uses it after 4 wheeling, or honestly even some one that just wants "something for nothing" to complain and demand payment, boom the product is gone. Very sad.

With all that said though, the TW was not a great bargain, it was just I could get it locally which was nice at times. You had to use 4X as much as ONR, so even though it was about 6.36 a bottle after tax locally that would only do 8 washes, as compared to the same 32oz bottle of ONR at about 22.00 shipped (assuming no free shipping special, etc.) but it would do 32 washes.

I think you guys are overblowing the legal aspect, that isn't what killed this product, it obviously simply didn't move off the shelves. In today's world, all the brands compete for shelf space, and the retailers don't want products on their shelves that don't sell.

That's true in the brick and mortar world, and it's true here at Autogeek in the online world, how many products has AG dropped over the years because they didn't sell, because they needed the warehouse space for products that did?

Or looking at it a different way, how many products did Meg's drop over the years because they didn't sell or weren't worth reformulating to meet VOC regs? #16, NXT wash, the 80-series tire gel (after some years sort of reincarnated as a Detailer line product), #81, #5, etc.

I meant "in general" in today's society about the legal stuff and know things like this happen that make it just not worth it for companies to continue if there is not a huge pool of consumers to sell it to. As for the reason TW took the rinsless off, you could very well be right who knows, I just wish they would bring it back.

exactly - velocity and turns. that's what retail is all about. you nailed it - why have a slower moving item in a spot that could have a higher volume piece? imo the only way it would work is if a retailer decided in particular to be the go-to place for water conversation or enviro-friendly stuff and embraced it as their recommended car wash product. but...that's not realistic because these places have to take what they can get with employees and those employees have to do the best they can with juggling a bazillion parts over a million categories.

someday.

Someone must have really liked the TW if they really purchased it at $30/bottle on there. They also obviously are not aware of the heaps of other rinseless alternatives out there.

I just counted my spare bottles the other day after reading one of the other TW threads in the review section. I have at three full bottles left, possibly another one or two more in my other detailing cabinet. It's good stuff, but not worth going out of your way or paying way too much to get your hands on it. I use it at 1oz per gallon for maintenance washes using about a total of 1.5 ounces per wash between actually washing and pre-spraying the car. No issues at all at that dilution ratio.

I have never used it, but I wonder if it really needs four times the dilution ratio ... could it be like laundry detergents, where the manufacturer recommends more product per use in order to sell more bottles more often?

That dilution ratio is not set in stone. It was a recommendation by turtle wax for an average sized vehicle with an average amount of soiling. Since it's marketed to the general public "average" in that sense is pretty dirty. See my post above about the dilution ratio I have used for the entire last year for my maintenance washes. A TW rep answered a question about the dilution ratio way back saying it could be adjusted to what you were trying to achieve...like washing a smaller car, a car with less soiling, etc.

Well here is the definitive answer, an email from Turtle Wax:

Bummer :(

Eh, that just gives you an excuse to take advantage of one of the sales and buy some ONR or DG rinseless.

For what it's worth... They (she) hit me back for an email I sent for kicks asking them to please consider bringing it back. I'll grab a bottle next time I'm at the store and try it.
Been using ONR, and all is good. :xyxthumbs:

Thank you for your interest in our products.

Although our Rinse Free Wash & Wax has been discontinued, our Performance Plus Total Exterior Detailer utilizes the same dirt encapsulating technology as Rinse Free Wash and Wax. This product was designed to be used as a spray detailer (spray on, and wipe away dirt), but can also be diluted at 4 oz per 1 gallon of water and used in the same manner as Rinse Free Wash & Wax.

Thank you for choosing Turtle Wax.

Interesting! Now they just need to sell for half the price.

Awesome I'll have to look for that. I just got some Ultima WW+ though and I'm loving it!!!

I couldn't find it that cheap the other day when I looked it up. I think it was around $8-9, but it does show it for $4 now at Walmart. Might have to grab some and try it out. Still not the deal it was for $5 for 33oz.

It to early for me to try to figure this out, or my math skill just aren't clicking anymore but; if this was a diluted ONR, what ratio is it been sold at? Is this basically quick detailer strength ONR which would be 1:16(8oz to 1 gal), if all things are the same? TW at 4oz to 1 gal = ONR 1oz to 2 gal for a rinse less. I know it's just speculation about them being the same but a more diluted version, just curious.

The wife brought home a bottle from Wally's yesterday. $4 (god I hate that place, beyond ghetto) She gets pissed when my son and I refuse to accompany her.

Channel Locks made short work of the one way spray/cap. Smells veird. Looked to be milky white in color. When it cools off later today or maybe tomorrow I will try it out. Think'n straight up and a couple of different dilution ratios'. We'll use the Mercedes as the test subject. :bat:
