Have a safe and fun 4th of July!

Have fun with family and friends and also stay safe!

:)

Was reminiscing with my wife last night about how I used to celebrate the 4th of July. I grew up post-high school, post college with 3 other guys and we all owned V-drive Drag Boats, for those that don't know, these would be the muscle cars of boats.

Every year for any major spring, summer or fall holiday we would take a day or two off before the holiday weekend to get up to one of the local lakes and secure a good camping spot with the best access to the lake shore for our boats.

Then we would tear it up.

Miss those days. Posted to my personal facebook page a few days ago how I regret selling my drag boat back in 2001, a year and a half after my son was born. My boat only held 2 people and in gear at idle slow speed was about 15 mph and even with Super Traps on the headers, was loud, very loud and some might even say obnoxious.

Can't go back in time, at least not until Sheldon invents a working Time Machine.

I always value the freedom we enjoy here in America and I'm always grateful to those that paid the price to get us to where were at. Today we have relatives coming over for a barbecue and then watch the fireworks tonight. I'm also always thankful for family, friends, all my co-workers here at the Geek and all my forum friends, facebook friends and everyone I've met in this industry over the years.

Still miss the boat though...

And tearing it up at the lake on 4th of July weekend...

What are you thankful for?

And what car, boat, bike or fill-in-the-blank do you regret let getting away from you?

:)

Thankful for the freedom we all have in this country.

The one that got away was a 1965 Red Mustang GT Fastback. Four speed, 289 CI with 4 barrel. Lost it when I got drafted into the military in 1966.

I’m thankful for my family, health, and this great country. Thank you to all those who served and those who never came home.

Also, thankful for all the information AGO has given me. Greatest forum on the web. Autopia is close second:)

Stay safe and don’t look down the mortar tube.

Happy 4th of July!

Mike,
How fast was your boat and what type of engine? That looks scary fast!

I’m thankful for all the women and men who serve and have served this great country to make freedom possible.

Thankful for all of our serviceman past & present that have given their all, and sometimes their very lives for the ideals that make this country the best in the history of the world.

Secondly, for all my AGO friends who have helped, encouraged, advised, and taught me along my journey.

I am grateful that 58 men effectively signed their death warrants should their plan to establish a nation that allows each of us to pursue our own version of happiness fail. The risk they took, the sacrifices they made, and the toll they paid to provide me with the opportunities I enjoy is beyond fathomable to me.

As for the one that got away, I had a girlfriend in the late 70's whose father offered to sell me a 65 Cadillac Coupe DeVille convertible for $800.00 I had the cash, but my father wouldn't let me buy it. I can assure you if I had bought it, I'd have it to this day.

Happy Independence Day to all!
