Have you ever used or tried a Dewalt 423 palm DA? I stopped at a yard sale and found a Dewalt 423 palm DA new in the box. It still had the plastic strap around the box. Talked to the owner, he said he had never used it. So I paid $20.00 for it and took a chance on it. When I got home I looked it up to see if I had made a good deal. Well I hit a home run, They sell for for in the 180.00 range.

Was thinking it would be a great sander for projects.

Saturday I did an experiment to see how it would do with a foam pad for polishing. The windshield on the wifes car had lots of hard water marks, so I used a orange pad with some M105 and a white pad with M205.

It has a variable speed setting, started at 3 then moved up to 6. Wow, this thing is powerful. I marked the backing plate to watch for spinning. It took major pressure to stop the backing plate, major major pressure, it is a brute.

The results on the windshield turned out great. My wife came out to see what I was doing and I showed her the windshield. She drives the Liberty every day so she knows very well how it looked before polishing. She said, it looked like a new windshield, "it sparkles".

I have used other DA's but wonder why this one keeps the backing plate spinning so well. Have any of you used or tried one of these DA's

I am also wondering how it would work on paint correction, maybe it would work with a little practice and a light touch.

Any feed back would be great,

Tom

It may have forced rotation like the flex da instead of a counter-weight like the pc and GG models

let us know how it works on paint for correctional ability, maybe some of these sanders can be used for paint. who knows! but you scored a great deal there. even if you dont use it for paint. good to have a sander for projects!

The unit is crappy. I will take it off your hands for $40 because I am a nice guy

I've had a 423 for years as my finish sander for wood projects-a good, durable unit. Biggest problem using it on paint is the speed. OPM range is 7,000 to 10,000, whereas a PC is 2500-6800, IIRC. There are not many polishes and compounds that are designed to be applied at that high of a speed. I have tried it on paint and it works OK, but my advice is to replace it with a PC or equivalent at your earliest opportunity.
