Have you no pride?

You’re on the money. I worked a very short time at a “detailer” that did dealership cars and the stop for me was when they’d fill a spray bottle with black paint and go to town on the undercarriage and exhaust.

More often than not, these jobs can’t be defined as shoddy work, typically this is exactly what the dealership/shop is asking for so the individual has nailed the brief.

We need to be fair in judging others work, as brief and budget is 90% of the job.

I like your terminology especially the 'fair' reference! It's very easy for someone being paid hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars and being allowed to spend days, maybe weeks on a single vehicle's detailing to say someone who gets to spend an hour or two at most is showing no pride. Not to mention they are probably being paid minimum wage or worse, reliant upon tips to make it up to a minimum wage. Additionally in my years of experience I doubt many of the dealership detailers were given any significant training, heck some were probably handed a hose and a sponge and told to "clean those cars over there".
