I"ll start by saying I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this if not I'm sorry and mods if they wish can move it to it's appropriate spot. Okay, so, I am fairly new to machine polisher's. I currently have a Porter Cable 7424XP and a Dewalt rotary polisher. I mainly use my Porter Cable. So the past 2 day's I've been working on my parent's car which is a 06 Toyota Camry color Black. Well I tried a couple swirl and scratch remover product's and the swirls and scratches are still there, am I doing something wrong? I used my Komressor pads with Meg's #105 on my 1 of my pads and I also tried Meg's Scratch X on my purple pad and the scratches and swirls still remain. I worked the product's in for a reasonable amount of time at setting 4-5 on my PC. Like I asked before am I missing something or do I just absolutely SUCK??!!! I'm not sure if it's the pad's I'm using or what.

What size are the pads? I would recommend using 5.5" flat pats. You can bump it up to 5.5-6 speed if you would like. You shouldn't be using less than 5 to remove scratches. Make sure to use 15-20lb pressure and go about ..half a foot every second as your arm speed. Go up and down 3 times..so up 3 and down 3 over the whole area..which shouldn't be larger than 18 x 18..then lightly go up and down once with about 10-15 lbs..maybe less..

Scratchx shouldn't remove the swirls if 105 can't.

What color pads are you using and any way you can post some pics of the scratches your trying to get out?

They are the 7 inch pads. I guess the pads are to large. There is also a lot of scratches around the door handle from my mother's ring's. The car has mainly been waxed by hand since they bought it so some of the scratches have been there for a few years. I don't know if that make's a difference or noteither?

I'll see what I can do for picture's and I'll post them up. I've been using the Purple Kompressor pad which is the most aggresive pad in the 4 that I own. I have the White,Red,Black, and Purple Kompressor pads.

Picture's need to be put on hold until the rain stops

Some paint is harder than others. Use the rotary with the 105 and apply some pressure to it. Don't work it too long..you won't need to. That and your Kompressor pad should do the trick. Refine it afterwards.

pads are to big for the PC, and the speed was to slow. were the pads even spinning? I can barely keep my red LC 5.5" spinning on speed 4(light pressure) while putting down a coat of wax

:iagree:richy, but he's new to machine polisihing so using a rotary with 105 might not be a good idea. Get some 5.5" pads with 105 and stick with your pc.

updated: sorry for crappy pics but I do not own a camera, just an iPhone Camera but these pics should give a general idea of what I'm talking about. If possible I will get better pics over the weekend. Most of the scratches I am dealing with around the entire car are exactly like the ones under the door handle but seem to be worse on the trunk area.

Looks like you just need some 5.5" pads. Those deeper scratches with the white showing through you won't be able to buff out. They are too deep.

I only see two pics where you have a shot at getting those scratches either completely out or making them hardly noticable (shots 4&5). Orange pad and some 105. Slow and steady, don't go crazy. IPA wipe and check your work often. I had a pretty good key mark down the bed of my truck that I brought down to a point where you can only see it really close up.

The scratches under the handle should be able to be removed. You'll probably need to do that by hand with some cut up pads and some compound to start.

Any particular preference in which pad's to buy? Or is it personal preference?

Take this with a grain of salt since I'm just a noob myself, but I have CCS and LC Flats and I liked the LC Flats.

Make sure you get some advice some people like Accum, Mike, and some of the folks who really have put in the time and effort into this craft. I've been doing a LOT of reading and when I finally jumped in, it really made the process easy.

Go through and watch every single video... 3x. Then read all of the tech tips and articles twice.

If it wasn't for all of the great information here (and a few of the other online resources), the work that I've done thus far (which is minimal) would not have come out nearly as well as it did. I owe a LOT to the great information and people here.

be careful with your rotary (if u use it)it will burn through real quick if your not careful.

PC is my first choice for now anyways. I have moore expierence with the rotary vs. the PC but I do not want to bring the rotary to my parent's or anybody's car for that matter unless absolutely neccessary.
