I have to say just spent some time in maui and the big island and that state is awesome!

1 of 4 green sand beaches in the world was incredible and well worth the 6 mile hike.

Black sand, red sand and yellow sand beaches are just as nice.

Anyone on this forum that live in the state?

Maui is IMO the best of all the islands. Haleakala sunrise was astonishing and never thought seeing a sunrise could be so beautiful!

Which islands have you been and what did you like?

I live on the island of Oahu, and I love everything about it except for the nasty traffic lol...Overall, Oahu is a great island with lots of things to do. I recommend taking your time though as 5 days or 1 week is not enough to really enjoy Oahu.

I have been to st lucia the Hawaii of the caribbean..
4 hrs from jfk..
Pitons are on the left when flying in..
That Fukushima bldg #4 radiation leak and me don't get along..

I've been to Hawaii. Typical tourist....Waikiki Beach, North Shore, etc... Really liked it there.

Only bad thing I can say is you may be limited in yr buying choices if you live there. I was looking to buy some CDs when I was there (before iTunes) & all I could find was ukulele music.

Speaking of Hawaii, today is Pearl Harbor day. Went and saw that too.

I was born on Oahu at the big pink hospital on the hill raised in Waimea on the Big Island. I was also stationed on Oahu twice. Once as a soldier and the next as a retired dependent.
I have been to most of the Islands and THE BIG ISLAND is the best!

If you every go to Hawaii I always tell people you have to go to more than one island each island is different.

I visited Oahu and Maui back in 2002. Both were absolutely amazing and I would love to go back. Life, work and kids make you adjust your priorities though...

I thoroughly enjoyed both islands for their uniqueness. I can't begin to adequately describe the beauty of what I had seen. Someday, I will make it back to ensure I visit some of the other islands too, right after I hit up the North Shore of Oahu again for some Matsumoto Shave Ice.

Went around the Big Island on a bicycle over a two month period, the trip from the Black sand beach to the volcano was a killer, and the stay @ the bungalow's in the volcano's national park was freezing cold at night.
This was about a month before the first eruptions by one Madame Pele back in 84.

On another trip to Maui, made the mistake of letting a half drunk buddy drive the rental past the allowed point in Hana; fast & Furious had nothing on him, you should'a seen the look on cow's faces passing by my window; kinda looked like this

Love Hawaii, no other place I've been to matches it.;)

I lived in Hawaii for two years on Oahu. The traffic and crowded conditions made me feel claustrophobic and I really didn't enjoy my time living there. I also missed the change of seasons. However, I loved the Big Island. The wide open spaces and smaller population on a far bigger island was a pleasant change.

If I was to go back, I'd skip Oahu and visit places like Maui, Big Island, and some of the smaller islands.

'95 visited Kauai. '05 we went to Maui. We thought it would be too commercialized. It's not at all. Maui has everything. Continuing down the "road to Hana" is so worth it but recommend a 4x4 vehicle. Have to go to Pearl Harbor if you ever go to Hawaii.

I really like Lanai. It is probably too sleepy for most people, but it is soooooo relaxing. We try to go to HI at least every year, but due to other life circumstances we took a break this year.

Also really liked the big island and of course Maui. Oahu is just too crowded. Never been to Kauai or Molokai, still have to make it to those.

If you dive, you will love Lanai (both the cathedrals) or Maui (molokini crater - the back wall is an awesome drift dive)

I've been twice and would move there today if I could. St. John is right up there with it though.

I lived there from late '69 to late '71 courtesy of the USN. I was stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station which is now gone. I went to every island that one could visit and crawled the edges of Kīlauea staying at Kīlauea Mountain Camp that was strictly for the military. Those adventures will be in my head for the rest of my life. I loved it there but could not afford to stay when I was discharged.

We stayed at that camp over Christmas 2007. It was a great time and memorable as well...what a great place. Probably my fondest Hawaii memories were the time we spent on the Big Island.

I'm lucky to have been born and raised on Oahu...i love Maui though, its very laid back and no freeways..Kauai is too wet, lol
