Hello all,
I wanted to asked a question about a problem I just encountered. I have a cat in my shop right now that had the worst etching in the paint and glass that you can imagine. I thoroughly washed the car, dried it, clayed it. I then started to experiment with what it would take to get it back into shape. I knew it was pretty bad so I started with menzerna super intensive with a polishing pad, but had to go up fg400 with a hybrid power purple wool pad. Then polished it and sealed it, the paint looks amazing now.
The problem is the glass, I've tried to clean it, clay it, I've even tried 0000 steel wool(only in a small test area). The steel wool is the only thing that even made a slight dent. I was going to try something with cerium oxide but I don't know which to use.
I think it was caused by hard water and letting it air dry in the sun, the customer has another vehicle with the same issue. They said they used a pretty harsh soap and their water is from a well and has a high iron content. I thought maybe a mineral etching.
I will be posting pics tomorrow
