Is it necessary, a good idea, or pointless to put a coating on new headlights? I bought a 2016 Tacoma, did the paint and I'm curious about the headlights. When I work on headlights I coat them with Wolfgang Headlight Sealant.

Yes, did mine 21 months ago with Dlux..car sits outside 24/7 and lights are clear like day one.

I think it's a good idea, it's going to help protect the headlights, which IME have a lower life expectancy than the paint.

I've always sealed the headlights, taillights, fogs, etc with whatever I was using as LSP on the paint with success. Is there really anything gained by using a product like the one from Wolfgang?

I don't know, I used to do as you, just use whatever LSP on everything. Today I would use Opti-Lens or DLux on the headlights, just because I've experienced the pain of failure of the factory coating there.
