Here's a short before & after of a 1999 VW Jetta headlight restoration.

Process was:
1. Wetsand 800, 1000, 1500 & 2000
2. Megs 105 on LC 4" orange @ 1500 rpm
3. Megs 205 on LC 4" gray@ 1500 rpm
4. Klasse sealant

Before

After

Not perfection, but the owner was very happy...he can now see in the dark.

Cheers!

Looks good, you could making a living on restoring just Jetta headlights alone. They are all awful!

My '03 jetta had some bad fogging and I got a lot of it off with some headlight crap I bought at Wal-mart. But I'm gonna try wetsanding soon. I disabled my DRLs so that'll slow down the fogging a lot.

But now their is a big mesquito hunter stuck inside my headlight! So I've gotta figure out how to take it apart.

Wow, a 4 step sand and a 2 step polish. How long did it take you?

It was only my second time working with headlights, so I started out with 1500. Learned quick that 800 is the better way with cloudy lenses.

Once the lens was smooth with using 800, maybe 1-2 minutes with the other grits and the same with each polish. It probably took 30 to 40 minutes per side, but I was not rushing.

Did you try 105 with an orange pad before wet sanding? 30-40 mins is pretty good.

That's a great idea! I'll try that next time.

I just tried the 105 / 205 and had similar results. Thanks for the information.
