I have a headliner stain that looks like it was already worked over with some aggressive scrubbing (see pic below) My original thought was to use a soft brush and some APC and a microfiber towel and lightly agitate and blot a few times. Does anyone have a better approach?
Thanks in advance.

Skip the brush, the brush will just destroy the texture of the fabric. I would use a dedicated carpet/upholstery cleaner. Spray the cleaner on a microfiber towel and work with very light pressure and don't over saturate the area with cleaner.

For cleaner I like OPT carpet and fabric clean/protect. If all you have is APC I would dilute it down to a very weak dilution.

^^^ what he said^^^ with one addition, try to tamp the cloth, not scrub or wipe. You should use a dedicated carpet and upholstery cleaner.
As you can see whoever tried to clean it before saturated it, and didn't get the product out. You can see the mineral staining in the fabric.

I've used Folex for stains like that on headliners but use it gently. No aggressive scrubbing or brushing.

Thanks everyone for your assistance. Much appreciated. This is a great forum, great people and sound advice.

Thanks again.

Mike, had to look that one up...
Tamp:To pack down tightly by a succession of blows or taps

I'm going to go with the Folex. Is full strength OK? Any additional guidance with this product? Seems pretty straight forward.

I'll post after pic's

Thanks

Yes full strength everytime. Those directions are straightforward, and you're best advised to follow them because I've found that trying to do the conventional thing and scub after spraying actually doesn't work with that cleaner... Just do what it says, Spray/rub in with your finger/blot-wipe clean. You'll never need a brush with that cleaner.

For small stains on headliners, I wet a q-tip and blot the stain. Then blot dry with a dry towel. And yes, full strength.

Folex -Fail...
So went out and got some Folex and did two treatments on my headliner. First direct spary method and blot. Second sprayed a brush and tapped it into the stain then blot.
I'd post pic's but the side by side shows NO difference. I thought there would be at least some improvement but nothing. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I used tough stuff w great success on my almond interior headliner and a pillars. It's otc at any auto parts store and works great.

I'd go with super degreaser if someone worked before. Citrol could work fine too.

Do you know what. caused the stain? Figuring that out is probably what you should do rather than throwing a bunch of chems at it blindly.
