The much less expensive solution would be actually capturing more of the run-off from rain.
Los Angeles County has no coordinated program or funding to even capture the free stuff...let alone pay to pump water here or desalinate.
But isn't that the problem, you're not getting any rain?
Why can't you just drive down to your local self-service car wash and do a power wash early am or late pm under cover? Take a bucket of water+shampoo and 1 bucket of water from your house and do a regular wash+pw? It only costs $2 here on the east coast. Or is it just easier to do a RW?
Glad I started using ONR a few years ago, a Megs #114 this year and now an Ultima WW this month. Getting lots of practice just in case. It will hit us here in NE too not because of lack of rainfall but because of water infrastructure replacement due to aging pipes. Water bills have doubled/tripled already for most homeowners this year. And if you live in an apartment its going to be passed onto you in higher rents.
WOW!
I would try the Ultima waterless wash. It could come in handy some day. Its one heck of a good product.
I never would have thought a retail business would have H2O limitations. I used to live in Torrance early 70's (remember C. Manson?). Left to go back to CT. Glad I did. But, I did miss the Woodstock festival. I could never live in CA again (earthquakes, wildfires, water shortages, crop failures, maybe wine shortages). Have you ever considered a move to another state?

The limitations are absolutely needed, I live in Riverside by the main lake LA gets it water from. It's unreal how low it is, driving by it blows me away. As long as I can remember the water in it was at the same level. Now you drive by and it 70% lower, maybe more. And I can see islands in the middle which I didn't even know existed. It's one thing to hear the news talk about a drought, but to actually see it really puts it into perspective to me.
Which one, Perris Reservoir or Lake Mathews? (I've just been looking at Google Maps). I also see Poorman's Reservoir and Mystic Lake which both are dry.
Didn't parts of the IE get flash floods yesterday? Lake Elsinore if I recall from the news. (Not far from Perris for those from NJ).
