So, helping a friend with his rx8.
He has probably the worst spotted windows I've ever seen. To the point you can't see out of them at night.

We have tried:
Vinegar
Green scrubbing pad
Bon ami
Invisible glass kit
0000 steel wool
C4 compound and orange pad on da
P4 polish on black pad and da
Claybar

Im all out of ideas.

McKee’s Glass Restoring Polish

Kaboom bathroom cleaner [the one that says water spots]

My go to is Chemical Guys waterspot remover. It has worked for me every time. The key is to apply it in small sections since it's a gel and you don't want it to dry on the surface. I wouldn't use it in direct sun. Another one to try is Labocosmetica Energo which may be a little stronger and you can dilute it differently depending on the severity of the situation.

Whink is my last ditch effort when all else fails. It’s acid so use gloves. I put it on a paper towel to apply it. Then wipe it off with windex. The windex seems to neutralize the acid. Then buff or polish the glass.

If compounding and steel wool didn't touch it, Im sure water spot remover isn't going to help much.
Maybe a slurry of all 3 combined..compound/water spot remover/0000 SW
With all that you have tried, I'd be at a loss myself!

Rotary and something like carpro ceriglass and a rayeon pad? I think carpro even has a newer cutting pad for glass.

Apparently, to remove defects from glass is very time comsuming. It's not at all like paint. You have to do a lot more polishing/passes.

Mike Phillps has a decent video on it actually.

Same here. Using a microfiber towel or 0000 steel wool.

I’ve never tried it with steel wool but it’s good to know that it’s safe and works. I tend to stay away from using anykind of compound or metal polish with steel wool because those combinations will scratch chrome, but glass is harder and it’s good to know it works.

If I need some extra kick I’ll use the McKee’s with a Magic Eraser, but thr steel wool seems like it would easily provide more power.

The only time I do use steel wool with metal polish is inside stainless steel exhaust tips when they’re super caked with carbon since it cuts through the fastest and there’s no worries about any scratches inside there.

I thought you routinely cleaned your chrome wheels with steel wool, are you saying that WITHOUT compound or metal polish, it doesn't scratch, but WITH it does??

I'd still use the water spot remover. Even though you may not see a visible difference, the use of a water spot remover (acid) is needed to neutralize the minerals that caused the water spot, in turn preventing them from returning on a hot day.
