Just wanted to say hello to everyone. Just a newbie tired of looking at my dirty cars. One is a new Honda and the other is a late 90's explorer that I picked up for something to drive around town. Honda is in pretty good shape, but could use some maintenance on it to keep it looking good. The explorer, well lets just say it's seen better days.

Spent many summers working for my grandfather as a kid in his detail shop, but honestly don't remember any of it. It was back in the days when all there was were rotary buffers and I have burnt my share of paint jobs. You remember the days when you were getting ready to do another car you just turned the buffer upside down and stuck a screwdriver in the center and pulled it across the pad to clean it. Well maybe that is just the way we did it.

Anyway going to try and find a good buffer and see if I can remember what kind of compounds to polishes for what I am working with. It will just be used for my personal stuff maybe dads from time to time when he comes to visit. Anything I get will have to be ordered since we don't have any stores like that around here. Hope everyone has a good weekend or what's left of it anyway.

:welcome: to AGO! I remember those days! I believe I still have some of those screwdrivers...almost wore down to a point!

Yep, that's how it was done for years... and it works if that's all you have. I've cleaned many a wool pad with a screwdriver or even any handy open end box wrench close to my hand. Steel Pad Cleaning Spurs work much better and don't tear up the pad as much.

Thanks everyone. Thanks for the links Mike. Watched your videos and they are very informative. I like the look of the DA polishers, but the rotary is screaming "remember me" at me. Guess I'll have to do a little more reading. Need to read up on those foam pads as well. All I have ever used were wool pads, but that was 15 years ago or longer so I'll have to check out the difference. Anyway, thanks again everyone and enjoy your day.

Hi and welcome. You'll really enjoy this forum.

Cowchaser. Cool name. Oklahoma and its tornadoes. Are you one of those, what I consider either crazy or lucky, C.O.W. (Chasing Outrageous Weather) stormchasers? :wow:

A real cowpuncher?

Hopefully not as I once was: Some of the gals I chased while inebriated (drunken stupor/stupid) turned out to be heifers. :D

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Thanks again Mike. I didn't realize foam had been out so long. I guess my use of wool pads was just what gramps preferred.

FUNX....well no I don't chase storms. However like most in Oklahoma we have so many that when the tornado sirens go off we don't run for shelter we step out on the front porch to see if we can tell where it is. The name came from when I was a Deputy Sheriff. Seemed like everytime I was at work somebodies cows would get out and I would get the call. It got so bad all dispatch had to tell me is what they looked liked and where they were and I could tell them who to call without even going to look. I don't have any cows, but my inlaws have over 200 at certain times a year. I honestly hate cows and think they are the dumbest animal on earth, but I do help work them when they need help. That's what happens when you marry a farm girl. You become free labor for her dad.

Great story on how you acquired your name. :)

Free Labor: I feel that's a cultural trait with added benefits. :D
