Greetings:
I found Autogeek about a month ago, while we were working on my wife's old Pathfinder. Haven't posted because I was busy working, and the hours I had available were going into figuring out what to do with her truck.
I read a lot of information, and realized that I was more than a few years (decades perhaps?) out of date with auto detailing. I've been using Liquid Glass since the 1980s, and since that product seems to have mostly disappeared, I wanted to figure out what current products to use.
In order, here's what I decided.
1. I could get a Porter Cable or similar DA, but then I would want a Flex. So, I went right to the Flex.
2. Selected Menzerna for polishes, Lake Country CCS pads, and Wolfgang DGPS for the sealant.
3. Placed a few orders with Autogeek (and another local dealer). I like the Autogeek web site, but having a guy with many of the same products 3 miles down the road lets me do impulse buys and have the goods in my hands 30 minutes later :nomore:. Autogeek orders are taking a little over a week on average.
I had to order a variety of small parts (fasteners, gaskets, door arms, etc.) from the local Nissan dealer. New carpet for the rear, a new stereo and speakers. We've had this vehicle since we bought it new in 1989. It is a daily driver, but it's had the benefits of living in a garage, and many of the years it had covered parking.
It's back together, ready for daily use. Still needs a few things that are on order, but mostly complete.
I learned a few things.
Best paint rejuvenation is strip, primer, base coat, and multiple clear coats (in this case, 3)
So, now she has the newest old vehicle around, or the oldest new vehicle around. Either way, it looks pretty sharp, and she won't pass herself very often :xyxthumbs:
Here's what it looks like now.
A little about me - IT guy from childhood. Spent several years as VP of IT at U-Haul. I guess I did things too well, and the State Department asked if I would go help them with a project. Spent a lot of the 90s in Vienna, Austria building the systems for International Atomic Energy Agency (Safeguards). Spent time living in Dallas (an MLM company I accidentally ended up half owner of, Houston (Enron), Shanghai China (Lotus Superstores), and then decided I wanted to stay home. Bought all of the AZ franchises for a company called Geeks On Call (computer service). The downturn in the AZ economy, and some bad decisions by the franchisor cost me a bundle. Now, I'm being a full time IT consultant, with about 70 companies that I take care of their systems.
Looking forward to learning more about auto care in this forum from a lot of very knowledgeable people.
Best regards,
Jim Gutman
