Hey guys!

I have recently been drawn to detailing cars after seeing some before and after photos. Now I look at my cars and wish to make them shine like new.

I have ordered a makita 9227. I know that this is not for beginners, but I plan on practicing on old hoods or fenders before I give it a go on a car.

I just had a couple of questions regarding pads, compound, and polish. There are so many brands and types; I have no idea which to go with. I understand that every car will need a different treatment. What's a good setup to start out with?

If I can master some technique down, I plan on trying to make some money off this during this summer.

Plenty of guides and tests on the site.

No problem going for a rotary take your time read the guides and practice...:dblthumb2:

As for pads look for a heavy cut pad a medium cut and a soft pad.

Always start a test section with the lightest cut pad and polish and work up till you get the level of correction you want that way your not taking lacquer off you dont need to...:xyxthumbs:

The Makita 9227 polisher is quite a machine. It's well built and should provide years of reliable service.

The rotary is a little more difficult to master than a dual action polisher. Keep in mind that rotaries were around long before its dual action counterpart so with some practice and experimentation you'll come up to speed with it quickly.

Remember to keep it moving and watch yourself when coming to edges and sharp corners. Another attribute to keep in mind is speed and it's direction of rotation.

I like Lake Country Kompressor pads and wool bonnets on the rotary.
