Hello Everyone,

My name is Stephen and I live Harlingen, TX. Down here, no one really knows hot to clean a vehicle. Many of the people take thier vehicles to automatic car washes that scrath up the rims and paint on thier vehicle. There are also several people who hand wash their work, however, they do not know how to mix anything and do bad jobs like the automatic car wash place. I guess that is what everyone is use to down here since Harlingen is right next door to Mexico. All I tell people is that you get what you pay for. Im the MAN

Well, I've decided to start auto detailing peoples vehicles down here. I've done a few already. This morning, I just finished doing a 2 stage on an '04 Lincoln Navigator. It took me two days to get the job done since I do all of the detailing by myself. I think I might have to bring in a 2nd person to assist me. The products I use are some Meguiars items, a Porter Cable Buffer, Menzerna Polishes & Auto Magic polishes, Cobra Microfiber towels (of course), some Poorboy tire/wheel cleaner and other products. I'm not a pro at this. It will take some time to get to that point. The vehicles I've done have turned out great and people have been more than pleased with my work. I would like to go to a place where I can get some professional training. I'm just not sure where I can get that though.

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself. My vehicle is an '08 Mazda 3s Grand Touring Hatchback.

Perhaps you could mentor a Mexican Assistant and he would be willing to work and learn for just food. I have trained many people with this same arrangement. Some people are not in a posistion to pay for proffesional training. I tutored a Vietnemse Citizen and he now has a three bedroom house and an Escalade. His gross is over $1000.00 a week on detailing and that is part time. He has another full time Job working at a Nursery.

Well, with some of my family members, I'm not able to break any laws. There are too many family members who work for the government in high places.

I would never suggest Breaking The Law. If you wish to hire an unnaturalized Mexican as opposed to a Mexican-American / Naturalized Citizen. Detail the vehicle on their side of the border. That way you are helping US / Mexican Relations. I was born in Corpus Christi and I know your area well. I prefer to have Latin / Spanish Speaking employees. I do not speak Spanish fluently but in Florida wher I live now Caucasions are now a minority and to have Bilingual skills is an asset. Also you may wish to hire an American Indian. The Kickapoo and Kiowa Tribes have people in your area anxious to learn a Trade. Also there may be an Asain Presence in your City that you could help mentor and provide skills for. We are all God's Childeren and our brothers keeper. Why not employ some of the less fortunate that we will all be paying for under the OBAMA presidency. The "HAVES" & the "HAVE NOTS" will soon just be a middle culture of mediocrity by 2012 so embracing the downtroden and less fortunate will give you insight into your future lifestyle regardless of what wealth you may have amassed or will earn in he years ahead. Whether uneducated or degreed there will be little difference in how we all live.

Well, since I'm still new at trying to do this publicly, I will say that I'm a newby at it. My own personal vehicles, I've always taken care of them. I use to compete in car audio comps, road race and auto cross plus car shows (Always won my class ) . At this time, I really can't get into anything using a DBA since I'm still trying to get disability from Social Security, so, I guess I will have to start detailing by word of mouth. Also, there are really not any places that offer car cleaning things. There is only one place in Harlingen that is the Auto Magic dealer in deep South Texas. Some of thier items are good, but, I would rather use several other times. I order them from Auto Geek.

I'm with Benzdetailer on this--I say go ahead and hire them. You'll only have to throw in a couple of bucks for them, since the'll be getting free housing, medical, dental, education--probably even a refinance on a place they never owned. So I say power to you.

The difficulty down here is finding someone that is willing to work, doesn't steal, and speaks English. As silly as that may sound to some it's a very difficult task to accomplish in this neck of the woods.

Exactly. The Rio Grande Valley is about 15 years behind the time these days. What the valley saying is, "The Land of Manana". The really sad thing is, the last place I worked at, for 9 years, I could out think over 90+ percent of the people in National Accounts where I worked at and I had brain damage. THAT is/was sad.
