hey guy...

My names Mark. As the title syas....i'm from Houston...well, Spring, to be exact.

I'm 42, been a mechanic for about 18 years, so i'm a die hard do-it-youself guy. My mottoo is "If you want it done right, Do It Yourself." Thats not to say that it always comes out right, but in my business, the first time you do something, your a@@ is usually handed to you. But you build on that experience.

I first got into detailing cars when i was selling my 2003 Dodge Ram single cab truck. I had bought a 2003 Quad Cab truck for $1,200, (same color, same year) from a customer that had blown the engine. Since i didn't need 2 trucks, it was time to sell the single cab.

Trucks in Texas are mostly used for a purpose....not to just ride around in one, so my single cab was in dire need of a make over. I had bought a little steamer from Harbor Freight to remove window tint from cars that our customers wanted to have removed, and we had a few detailing supplies. I had abought a DA from HF as well, and for the most part, it works. It's more about tenchique than quality.

My wife had said that if i got $3,500 for the truck, i'd be lucky. BS, i said. Not after i get done with it. I must of spent a week cleaning it, washing it and compounding and waxing it. I'll admit that i'm a little OCD when it comes to cleaning stuff. I put nuts and bolts in an ultrasonic cleaner because i know that clean threads go in much easier than dirty ones. And it reduces the chances of cross-threading.

Anyway, by the time i got done with it, it looked amazing. It didn't even look that good when I bought it. When i posted pictures of it, i started getting calls immedietly. People were asking where the dealership was located, if I financed with bad credit, and where my website was at. People thought i was a dealer.

I ended up selling the truck for $4,300. And i know it was because i spent a week getting it looking as awesome as i could. Thats when the detail bug bit me.

I found this website by accident, and i frequent this place from time-to-time, learning all i can, when i can. Mike Phelps has been an incredible source of wealth and information, along with all the other members.

I now have a 2003 Acuta Tl Type S which i bought for $300 that is getting a much needed make over, and thanks to you guys, it's coming out great.

I'll post some pictures later this week, as I have several questions on getting it ready to sell.

Anyway, just thought i'd drop in and say Hi.

Have fun guys....

The timing belt broke while the customer was driving it. It's an interference engine, so at that point in the diag, the choice was either spend $1200 on a timing belt/water pump job, and hope for the best, or install a rebuilt engine, which was over $3500. The customer took 3 weeks to decide what to do, and one day, randomly came in and asked me if I wanted to buy it for $300...about the same price he'd get if he junked it.

So, I bought it, spent another several hundred dollars on it, got it running, and now I'm detailing the hell out if it. Since I'm a technician, and have the tools and the equipment, I've done more to this car in 2 weeks then most people will ever do to their car in a life time. You should see the list of Maintence items and flushes and upkeep that have been done....it reads more like a book than a work order.

Welcome, can't wait to see your pictures. I hope they are some before and afters. Either way welcome aboard :props:
