Still cold up here in New England, just cleaned my car the first time with AutoGeek products. Was very happy with the results, but being a novice, I still can use some help. Tire dressing (which I thought would be easy) turned out not as good as I would have liked. Can you re-use a foam dressing applicator after use? Can you clean a foam dressing applicator and if so how?

Hope to figure how to post a picture soon.

Thanks for any help

We all can use help at some time or another, great place to be to get the help you need.

Have you tried thin application directly from the applicator?

Can you re-use a foam dressing applicator after use?
Yes you can as long as its cleaned regularly.

Can you clean a foam dressing applicator and if so how?
Soap and water will do the job, gently clean the applicator under running water and dry with a terry cloth.

Hope to figure how to post a picture soon.
How to upload photos to Autogeek the proper way!

Thanks for any help

Hey Fosdickler,

:welcome: to Autogeek.

Instead of washing my tire dressing applicators, I just keep my applicators in a zip-lock bag. Having several brands of dressings, that means several applicators.

You can but it's going to be very messy and take a little work as most tire dressing are not very easy to break down with water.

Keep in mind, most people want a tire dressing that will last for WEEKS and even MONTHS even when their car is exposed to rainy weather or repeated washings.

To make a tire dressing last like this it cannot be easily broken down by water, thus trying to wash and clean an applicator pad drenched with tire dressing is going to take some work and a really good detergent.

Try using Dawn dishwashing soap in a utility sink with as warm/hot of water you can stand. Put some chemical resistant gloves on so you don't get the tire dressing all over your hands and then using the detergent soap, work the soap and water into the foam and then squish it over and over again to emulsify the tire dressing and then rinse.

Repeat until the foam applicator is clean enough to meet your expectations for a used, but cleaned foam tire applicator pad.

Another option is to stock up on applicator pads and simply dispose of them after use or store them for use the next time you want to dress your car's tires.

You can clean them so they look and feel brand new. Soak them in a 50:50 mixture of mineral spirits and IPA overnight. Wear gloves and "squeeze" them several times in the mixture when initially placing them in, and when removing. Then rinse well with water or IPA and let dry.

Or you could throw them away every time and buy new ones.

Welcome. I'm on the other side of the state. Tire applicators can just be thrown into a baggie and re used over and over.
