Hi all, I am Mike. I am from the Baltimore area, and have been lurking here for a little while. I have been in and out of the auto industry since 1995, mostly in body shops. The past year, I have been production detailing for a private shop, but they closed their doors over the weekend due to mis-management.

I found this forum when I started seeing the writing on the wall at work, and found out that I am a bit of a hack detailer (out of ignorance, not choice). I really enjoy detailing though, and love cars, and want to start my own mobile set-up full time. This site has been a huge help for me, in seeing where I have been using the wrong products or techniques, and showing me tips on issues that I have had in the past getting the job done right.

I hope to make some friends and learn everything I can possibly can, to make myself the best detailer I can.

We all have to start somewhere.... a few years ago I wrote an article about hack detailers. I wrote it VERY carefully so as not to hurt anyone's feelings. I think you might like it. Here's the link,

Hey Mike,

Sorry about your job, but all things happen for a reason. This forum has a lot of smart folks, better yet, they're willing to share that knowledge so we all benefit. Can't beat that. Looking forward to seeing you around. Take care & good luck.:dblthumb2:

Peace,

Thanks for the welcome and the link, Mike. I fit into both the knowingly and unknowingly categories, but it was never malicious. Lol. But now that I have found this place, that will all change. I also ordered the combo with your book and the detailing business book. I am looking forward to reading both several times before I go much further.

Thanks Darrin. I think this happening is the push I need to get this going. I have a lot of research to do (I want to do this right), and this forum seems like the right place for that.

That is awesome Mike, thank you.

I do need to ask a question. I have been checking all of the websites i can think of, but cannot find out what i need to do legally here to get the business started, once I am ready. Do i need a license from the state?

Just call what're local jurisdiction you live in. As long as you're not selling products it is easy.
