Been lurking for a few days trying to figure out what to order.

I drive a Black 06 Dodge Ram NightRunner. Picked it up in early November 2009.

These pictures are from the weekend after I got it and gave it it's first wash. I was only able to spend about 2 hours outside and had to skip out on the tires and a decent layer of wax.

Well anyways I came to this site so I could improve my washing/waxing skills. There are swirl marks and light scratches from the previous owner and also what looks like some clear coat overlaying(?). I am currently using Meguiars NXT Tech 2.0 PASTE, and Gold Class Wash. Also have about 10-15 different microfiber towels, if it's on sale I'll usually grab a few.

I have been saving up for a while now to get decent supplies. I don't have a huge budget and would like to stay under $175 if possible. I was hoping someone could help me pick some stuff. I pretty much want to start from nothing. I am pretty limited on where I can wash my truck and don't have anywhere to hookup a Porter Cable. I was looking at the Wolfgang OR Pinnacle Complete Detailing Tool Bag Kit but want some more opinions before I spend this much.

Welcome to Autogeek! I'm in Jax. If' you're an apartment/comdo dweller, look into ONR or DP Rinseless wash. Many people are skeptical on rinseless washes, but a little research will have you itching to try it and then it will be your favorite thing to do. AT some point you'll need to move into machine polishing but you can certainly keep your truck looking sweet doing everything by hand it'll just take a lot more time and you may not achieve perfection even if your arms feel like they're going to fall off.
 
I'm living in a condo in St. Augustine until I can either find a better job or a second job. There's a dedicated car washing area with a hose just no power outlets.

I will look into ONR a bit more. I really want to try claying and a quick detailer.
 
yeah that's cool. Read up on proper wash techniques using 2 bucket method, master the various drying techniques, look into claying. Beyond that maybe a good all in one product that will clean, polish and seal your paint. You can top the AIO product with a nice carnauba wax for anice warm glow.

I grew up in Jax but lived in St Auggie all through high school then moved back to Jax for work. Great little town.

Nice Dwayne, where did you get that biggin at? Havent been bass fishing much lately, but gonna start going more now that Snook seasons closed.

Near US1 & Salerno. Got her on live shiners. Shiner was scared and jumped out of the water and the bass came up after it.

Nice! theres nothing like watching a bass blow up on a bait, well i might have to check out that spot.
 
With tax this would be about $185. Since Autogeek rules, shipping is free with orders over a specific amount and Florida residents get a shipping break due to having the sales tax. This is a start, go check out some of these products and hopefully others can add some ideas for maybe a good AIO that is good for hand application or a nice paint cleaner to apply prior to waxing.

Nice list. I would however add a couple of items.

Since you are doing your polishing and waxing by hand, you might want to try the LC CCS Euro Foam Hand Applicators.

bmy5541- You're right, those hand polishing pads are nice. I have a set and use them all the time. Good grip and they work for hand polishing and applying waxes.

If you want to start fresh and have a limited budget, there's an endless amound of good paths to take. I tried to pick a few of the BOGO offers and sale items to maximize the kit. Besides, nothing better than plunging your hands into all those packing noodles and pulling out the goods.
 
Another Jacksonville native here. Found the site sometime ago. Invested in quite a bit of products for my own vehicle and all of a sudden friends and family wanted me to do theirs. Took all my Armor All and Turtle Wax products and put them in their rightful place, the trash can outside. Since then have never looked back.

Listen to dublifecrisis. He was the first to welcome me in also. Another Jax guy all the way and definitely knows his sh!t. Cool to see another Jax member. I am in Mandarin. let me know if there is anything i can do to help.

It's going to be a little while before I can order now. Been cut down to about 25 hours a week at work. Not sure how long it's gonna stay cut but I'll be sticking with the Meguiars for now I guess. Might order some more rags, mit and a bucket though. Maybe a QD too.

More time to get my list up :o

Hey, trichard, we've got sturgeon here in FL, in the Suwannee River. They love to jump and have a nasty habit of doing so right in front of moving jetskis. Can you imagine catching one of these beasts in the face at 30 mph?!
 
Bassmaster, that looks like a great start to keeping that black dodge looking good. There's nothing wrong with NXT 2.0. It's super easy to apply and remove, smells great and it lasts a little longer than the previous NXT wax. In the shade/cool area you can apply the entire vehicle then circle back around to buff it off. Then take one of those nice cobra 530 towels and do a final gloss with your FK425. If that streaks a little, flip to a clean towel surface and gently remove the streaking. Make sure you read up on proper MF towel care. Don't go throwing in the wash with all your other laundry. You pay good money for this stuff and want it to last.

If you're wanting to add something to your order, consider an interior protectant spray. There are plenty of good ones so read up and check the reviews. Maybe a good spray wax to use in between regular NXT waxing. Exterior trim dressing for bumpers.

Lastly, you can never have enough microfiber towels. Take advantage of the good deals or add some all purpose towels for interior, windows.
