Hello everyone, I'm very proud to be a part of your community!:xyxthumbs:

15-20 years ago I used to do detailing but much has changed since that time. That being said, I'm looking to get the family vehicles into shape, and perhaps return to doing some detailing on the weekends etc., should time allow!

Looking at the Porter Cable Dual Action kits and having a hard time deciding (again, much has changed over the years). To start with I plan on maintaining a new Honda Civic, cleaning & protecting a 2007 GMC Crew Cab 4x4 (not in bad shape - nothing major), and starting the work on our newly acquired 2004 Keystone travel trailer with fiberglass sides (again, nothing crazy, but some attention would be appreciated!)

Could someone point me in the right direction in regards to the Porter Cable kits? Does one "cover the range" better than another? All help appreciated...and if this is the wrong area for this type of post I apologize - I'm sure that being part of the group will come with time!

Again, happy to be here!

John

The PC are nice but for a cheaper price and lifetime warranty I would look at Griots Garage kits.

Do you want to remove all swirls scratches and any oxidation?
Can you post pictures of the vehicles you going to be working on?

Oh and welcome to AGO!

Thanks for the welcome! I'd like to get back to my "perfectionist" frame of mind :-)

I'll need to come up with pics (previous computer problems), but luckily little oxidation - all three are white. The truck has a few swirls but I'm in the middle of claying it and it is turning out quite nice. However, the trailer just looks a bit "dull"...the decals are worse than the rest, but better than most of the vintage...

Does that help?

Personally, I like to create my own kit...

A perfect match!

Paint Correction

  • First, remove moderate imperfections with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0 and a light cutting pad. Then follow up with Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0 and a gray finishing pad to smooth away haze and restore surface gloss. These two products are made to work hand in hand to give your vehicle a smooth, flawless shine in just two steps! Because they utilize fast-cutting nano abrasives, the polishes work well with an orbital or dual action polisher.

Since you're new to using a dual action polisher these links will take you to some great information by Mike Phillips.

Foam Pads

Yellow Cutting Foam
- Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and older finishes. Always follow this pad with an orange or white pad and a fine polish to refine the paint until it is smooth.

Orange Light Cutting Foam - Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all-around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

White Polishing Foam - Less dense foam formula for the application of waxes, micro-fine polishes and sealants. This pad has very light cutting power so it’s perfect for pre-wax cleaners.

Gray Finishing Foam Pad - Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has no cut and will apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes.

Blue Finessing Foam – Pad has soft composition for applying glaze, finishing polish, sealants, and liquid waxes. Flat pad provides full contact with paint surface to minimize the pressure applied by the user.[FONT=&quot]
