Just wanted to say hello from western New York. I'm new to the forum and have ALOT of reading to do. I'm own a 2009 hemi orange Dodge Challenger and recently purchased the porter cable 7424 to buff out some swirls. I look forward to being a member and learning as much as I can about keeping my cars looking good.

Nice to see another WNYer onboard. I live in Brockport. Perhaps I've seen your car at a local car meet. The year and color sound familiar. Anyway this is one of the best car care forums. Enjoy and welcome.

Welcome to the forum. I was born and raised on G.I. Work has taken me from the area. There is a lot to learn, don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone is so willing to help and offer advise.

:welcome: To Autogeek Online!! :props:

The new Dodge Challenger's are absolutely gorgeous and Porter Cables 7424 dual action polisher is just the machine to keep it looking it's best.

Some information on products and removing those paint defects.

Pads & Backing plate

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish

Thanks for the info Bobby. I have black vinyl rally stripes on my car so I'm a little hesitant about getting the polisher or product on them. I've read that Meguiars ultimate liquid wax won't turn vinyl white so I'm thinking about giving it a shot. My car is garage kept and never sees winter. I tried claying it last year and didn't see any difference before or after, so I figured the paint must still be in pretty good shape. I was planning on using Megs swirl x, then ultimate polish and then ultimate wax in that order with orange, white and then red pads respectively. Does that sound about right?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Colonel,

The contrasting black stripes can be a bit challenging. My solution is to carefully tape them off so that any product that could possibly contaminate them stays on the tape and off the stripe.

Any product that contains cleaners will leave a white residue behind.

Claying is a process what removes embedded particulates and debris from the finish. To test for this simply place a plastic sandwich bag over your fingers then glide them across the painted surface. If you feel tiny snags then the surface should be clayed..

  • Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
  • Meguiar's Swirl-X
The pad choices sound right and you'll be able to tell once you start using them with the products....

Thanks again.
Next weekend our weather is suppose to be decent so I'm going to give it a shot. Very much looking forward to it. I'll try the plastic sandwich bag and see what happens.
