Help cleaning felt lined compartments

"It looks like whatever was stuck to the felt has pulled the color out of it or effectively bleached it out."

Nothing was stuck to the felt it was basically clean with a little dust and lint.

Underlying plastic is black, so if the color was "pulled out" a black color would have been exposed



"Either that or the fibers of the felt have been pulled away or worn down in that area exposing a different color."

The felt was not "pulled away", it is still there. The underlying plastic is black.

You could try cleaning it again with something a little stronger. If that doesn't work you could re-dye it or try finding another at a salvage yard

The ashtray pictures is not an expensive piece ($35), so replacing is not an issue. Even less so because the white area is at the bottom an not visible unless the component is removed.

I am more concerned that this could happen in another vehicle in a more noticeable location.

When the piece is moist from cleaning the white is not visible.

I will try Folex this afternoon.
