Hi guys,

My dad used a Brillo pad on his rims and scratched them up pretty good. I'm thinking compound and a wool rotary to try to buff them out? I could use any suggestions you guys have?

Ya but do you think I can actually buff them out regardless of product? I didn't know if they would be to hard, coating and all.

At this point they are badly damaged so there really isn't much you can do to hurt them any further... Wheels have a thick clear coat on them so give it a try...

I dont know if this is a path you considered taking, but you could always sand them all the way down, repaint and clear them?

Lots of work but it is cost effective and will look brand new.

All you can do is try. I don't think that even wool and compound will be able to get that out. You might have to end up wet sanding them to get the defects out.

Never thought of wet sanding actually, never tried it on rims. Has anyone ever done this? Would I do it just like wet sanding head lights, using compound/polish to buff out the scratches. I'm just wondering if I'll make them look worse if I can't buff out the wet sanding scratches because the clear is to hard.
