So, after watching numerous YouTube videos on auto polishing (mostly chemical guys) I decided I was ready...I was wrong. I used a Chicago Electric with a Blue Pad and Maguires Polish/Wax combo. The product dried out really fast, so I added another squirt of water to the pad with devastating results. These specs are as hard as paint. See photos. What did I do wrong and can it be fixed?

Ok, so it sounds like you used a rotary, and it looks like you splattered a lot of polish. When you say "Megiuar's Polish/Wax combo", can you be a little more specific on the product--does it have a number on it, or a more precise name?

Have you tried washing the vehicle?

Washing does't work - It is hard as a rock. Yes, I used a rotary polisher. I used Dual Action Cleaner/Polisher #83. I haven't tried elbow grease yet...worried about what product to use with the elbow grease. These specs are everywhere.

Clay bar should take care of it. I'd start by soaking an old bath towel with water and laying it on an area before try to clay, that should help soften the splatter a bit.

You could also try a body prep solvent, IPA or dilute all purpose cleaner, but that would use a lot more product.

Try going back over with 83 by hand. The wipers and any plastic use a carpet cleaner in a foam aerosol ,when you spray it the foam will cling to the surface and with some agitation you should be good.

Yea your butchered that job. Do you have a pressure washer?I would snow foam it and let it set for a while. Then clay bar and pressure wash off. Go buy a Flex.

I would try to pressure wash it to hopefully remove some of that mess before claying.

This sounds like good advice to me, soften the product. I like this approach. Good luck.

Peace,

Soak it with IPA or a detailer spray for a minute. Then use a plastic razor blade to remove. You will find this works very quick and easy. I have even used this trick to remove real concrete. I keep a couple of plastic razor blades in my shirt pocket at all times, because of the many uses.

I completely agree here. I would try to warm up the area to loosen it up and try the IPA before claying. With that much product splatter, the build up on the clay bar could be huge.

I would also recommend staying away from a rotary and go with a DA.

Personally I don't think IPA will make the slightest dent in that. Aggressive machine polishing or maybe a solvent based product. Claying will take forever and you better have a pound of clay.

you said you watched mostly chemical guys videos..that's your first mistake..

where are you located? perhaps someone in your area can help you out.

Have tried adding a little product to the pad and polishing the surface again to re-activate the product?

where are you located?

if in NJ i'll be more than happy to take care of it for ya

try some of the same cleaner/polish #83 that you used and try to see if that will remove the left over splatter, if that dont work, try clay bar, let us know what you have tried :xyxthumbs:
