Got a problem, guys. Recently bought a 2010 G37S with the original black leather interior. The headrest has a nasty greasy shiny spot apparently from the previous owner's hair product. I didn't think much of it when I bought the car, but it's proving stubborn. I tried Lexol cleaner and even took it to the dealer, but no luck. Any suggestions? If it helps in determining what kind of stain it might be, it seems the previous owner that left the stain may have been of Hindu background. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try All Purpose Cleaner and a microfiber cloth first

BTW, I'm becoming suspicious that whatever substance this is, it might have somehow seeped through the leather and saturated the padding in the headrest—evidence being whenever someone tries to clean it, it seems to achieve some small degree of success for a short time (slightly less shiny in the center), but then it comes right back. And it looks like it oozed/dripped/ran down the headrest at some point.

The substance is also aromatic... smells a bit "flowery".

@deviant detail: Steamer's an interesting idea. Wouldn't harm the leather you don't think? Steam being water...

@allenk4: I thought most cleaners not meant for leather would damage leather... not true?

Not meaning to shoot down your input at all, just worried... don't want to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Thanks for the responses!

Many on the forum, including me have had success with APC diluted 10:1 for cleaning dirty leather.

I like Optimum Power Clean

I had good luck with Megs APC+ diluted 10:1 on the leather seats in my truck. I then used Megs gold class leather treatment. The seats look good now.

Actually, a steamer will emulsify the grease to release it. However, in reviewing your post I believe that you are likely dealing with an organic hair coloring. If that's the case then it is probably embedded into the headrest.

@pureshine: coming soon!

@deviant: embedded meaning no hope?! <tears up>

Make sure the headrest surface that actually touches the head is real leather. A lot of manufacturers us vinyl with leather surrounds. If it is vinyl I would try a steamer.
