2. Rayovac Spotlight - 670 Lumens (more $ than I'd like)
3. Husky Flashlight - 650 Lumens (heavier than I'd like)
4. Defiant Spotlight - 350 Lumens
5. & 6. Coast Flashlight(s) - 375 or 410 (more than I'd like)

help me choose please! I detail my car in the garage during the day which is why I need a light.

So I said fk it...
finish kare?

Do they even have inspection lights?
Finish Kare Car Care Products, Detailing products, Finish Care, anti-static car wax

help me choose please! I detail my
car in the garage during the day
which is why I need a light.
IMO:
-Even though many of those lights may
be good enough to inspect your car...
-You still may want to pull your car out
of the garage---sometime during the
day---to let your inspection light be the
Sun: it is the best "swirl finder". :xyxthumbs:

Yall gave me suggestions for everything except the provided im not spending 50+ for a flash light, but thank you for the replies

it's because they're being polite.

the truth is that this forum is for the products, and their use, sold in the autogeek store. the revenue generated there pays for this forum. not the money you give home depot. so the question you're asking is quite inappropriate, take it to reddit or something.

it's one of the first things listed in the terms and conditions when you registered to this forum

if i were to purchase a portable light source to spot defects, i would pick up this. remember there are always sales going on which will bring the price down..

Just to chime in...

I was a part of the swirl finder light revolution, introduction and evolution in the online world. I've used most, not all but most and for the best bang for the buck, hands down this one...

SCANGRIP Sunmatch Swirl Finder Light - Product Review by Mike Phillips

The SCANGRIP Sunmatch Swirl Finder Light - Model 03.4561US

I love this light!

I haven't loved a swirl finder light since my last beloved Brinkmann Swirl Finder Light finally died on me. That's saying a lot since I've been using the Brinkmann ever since 2006, that's 11 years ago and a lot of swirl finder lights have popped up on the market since then and while a lot of them work very well this is the bomb!

Shedding a little light in 2006
This is a picture of me using the Brinkmann Swirl Finder Light in one of my Meguiar's Roadshow Classes in Dallas, Texas back in 2006. Some of you may recognize the name Scott Hair? Scott attended this class.

I've been waiting, looking for and hoping for a swirl finder light that would do everything the Brinkmann would do and more and the SCANGRIP Sunmatch meets all my needs and expectations.

Let me explain.

Not just for your eyes

Most people want and need a swirl finder light so they can see the true and accurate condition of the finish on a car. I need this too of course. But I also need a swirl finder light that enables me to capture the swirls with both my camera and on video. The SCANGRIP Sunmatch works perfect for pictures and video. This is where most of the other swirl finder lights don't have the right type of light as well as enough power. They work fine for your eyes but getting great pictures or video of paint completly lit up showing swirls has been a struggle. This is very important too because the power in the after shots is created in the before shots. I even have an article on this topic here.

My review?

I feel like a kid at Christmas getting the toy I had been hoping and wishing for all year long!

I'll say it again... I love this light! And if you like quality tool, not inexpesive toys or copies of the real deal but the real deal then you're going to love this light too.

At the end of this review I've included the technical aspects from the manufacturer but while the product features are interesting and important what's more fun and what you really want to see is the light in action!

So lets get on with it....

Here's the SCANGRIP Sunmatch Swirl Finder Light

This is a 1947 Lincoln Zephyr that is here for a detailing class on machine polishing paint.

When you see the swirls you'll completely understand what the car is here...

This picture is a picture without the light on and only using overhead florescent lights.

In this picture you can see my hand and the light, which are in focus while the fender and the light on the fender are out of focus. I want you to see that I'm holding the light about a foot and a half from the fender.

Moving around to the other side of the car, here's the passenger side fender with only overhead florescent lights....

Yeah, what he said. :dblthumb2:

And The Home Depot owns the company I work for and they cut may paycheck and my benefits.

Also...

I recently removed the engine from my truck to fix some issues and then re-installed it.

I cannot even begin to say how handy the magnetic base and the ability to flip the light up to 90 degrees was when it came to working on this project.

Let me just say, I never worked an hour on this project without using the light. Besides using the light to see what I was doing, many of the pictures I took of this project were also lit up by the SCANGRIP Sunmatch.

I give it all thumbs up...

Scangrip. That light is absolutely amazing. I use it for paint correction, looking for high spot when coating, and even final inspection of interiors. The battery life is amazing and the magnetic and swiveling base are great options. I even brought the Scangrip headlight for interior detailing. Worth every penny.

Lol man y'all really not wanting me to go to Home Depot...

It's not that, it's that we've pretty much all used those other kinds of lights before. So in the long run we're saving you wasted money.

For ~ $5-10 (for the bulb
and fixture) you can make
your own swirl-finder.

A Coast HX5 (there are threads on it here from before Flex and Rupes began selling lights).

google... " Astro Pneumatic 50SL Sunlight 400 Lumen Rechargeable Color Match Light "

Thanks guys to the ones that ACTUALLY READ WHAT I SAID AND GAVE ME ANSWERS I WANTED!

The defiant head lamps leave a lot to be desired, but the flashlight is ok.

I use a lot of those Home Depot lights, and still plan on picking up the scangrip eventually.

Are the:

(Astro Pneumatic 50SL Sunlight 400 Lumen Rechargeable Color Match Light)
and the
(Scangrip detailing lights) the same thing?
One is for $60 and the other at $150.

They really look similar!
