I try to wax or seal every inch of the car. So my question is are theses specific cleaners really necessary.
I know people love buying different products, I'm no different. But if things are protected and you stay on top of it, I don't see these specific cleaners necessary
When I wash, I either use separate bucket of megs soap on wheels or I'll just use whatever rinseless wash im using on the car. I wipe the wheels down after im done with the car. No scratches in the wheels yet
Its really dependent on the wheel color and finish. Most OEM wheels are very stout, but the ones which are painted a dark color and clearcoated show pretty much everything. If they are powdercoated, specifically with a matte color you can typically get pretty aggressive with them. it really all depends.
I prefer to think of a wheel cleaner as a helper in the process. The worst wheels to deal with are the ones on all the new super heavy, super performance sedans. This style of vehicle seems to be real popular with all the high end manufacturers. Try cleaning M5, E63, or s7/rs7 wheels without a wheel cleaner.. Its a nightmare and soap and water will not meet my standard of cleanliness even after 2 or 3 applications. dust bakes on from week to week in every nook and cranny.
I had my previous sedans wheels opti-coated and it was still a major task cleaning the wheels. Typically the most tedious task of washing the car was the wheels. Its one of the main reasons I ordered my new car with carbon ceramic brakes besides the claimed perfomance (which imo, you will never notice on the street anyway).
