Help me convince myself to buy a DA

This is most likely a random manufacturer defect. This is a great machine and well built. For the money it provides great bang for your buck and i know many people who are very happy with the porter cable.
 
Buy one and let the neighbors see how professional you are polishing your car!
 
Don't forget getting those water spots off your windshield and the rest of your glass. DP Glass Restorer, an orange pad and a DA works GREAT and only takes a few minutes to make that glass sparkle!

In actual use, is there really much of a difference between 6" and 5" pads?

In what situations would a foam pad be more appropriate than Meguiar's MF pads?
 
The best thing about a DA is that it is worth something after you buy it. For a couple fill ups of gas, you have something that usually works for many many years..unlike the two fill ups of gas or maybe a few months of iphone fees.

IME never more appropriate now!
 
Beats doing things by hand. The pc also has brush attachments. No regrets going to machine, in fact I have a GG 6" and an old PC for 4" pads.
 
take it from someone that recently started using a DA from hand polishing. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT!!!!!!!! lol. i always said ahh ill never use a machine .... then i ment my match. and decided to give it a try. search for 105/205 = wow. for some resaults i had recently only the 2nd car ive done. really bad swirls and scratches and boom perfect paint . its well worth it. specially if u ever hope to make decent money at times or even if ur just looking at it as a hobby . resaults speak for them self's . i have some threads of what ive done with mine poke around . i highly recommend the pc7424 xp . i use 5'5 inch foam LC pads. started with ccs pads but went to Flat pads much better imo. and of course 5" backing plate . again heres some links

How much is your time worth? Even if you are just lightly polishing your car once or twice a year, the time you will save, not to mention the superior results, will justify a DA. Add to this the ability to apply wax/sealants, spot buff scratches, and polish glass, and the utility is clear. I have a PC, Flex, and a rotary, and all have their places. You will not go wrong with a PC, and AG will take good care of you. They truly have great cust service, and an outstanding product selection. If you need help, they are a phone call away, always.
 
I have a dewalt DA, I used it for sanding wood long before using it as a polisher.....works great as a polisher
 
Ive never, ever, worked by hand. Dont know how that would feel like so im not trying it.

Griot's. Griot's Griot's Griot's! I can't recommend the Meguiar's to anyone now, after the newest patch of V2's, that were supposed to be fixed, broke yesterday, another cord failure. My boss called our Meguiar rep in between the first and second polisher, and he ended up having a large supply of cords on hand to do fixes for the problem.. This polisher broke after less than two months of use. The cord showed no signs of use. Yet we were using an old 7424 with the rubber shield gone and you could see the green and white cabling without problems.

My Griot's is over a year and a half old, and two weeks ago I did a Meguiar's MF correction on an 04 Deville and not once did I have a problem. It runs cooler and I prefer the sound of the higher pitched whine of the Griot's to the rumbling of the Meguiar's. Get the Griot's and don't look back young man.
 
Buy a DA its worth it. the results were amazing.I've polished and waxed by hand for 40 years and finally bought a GG DA and have great results.I got scratches out with ease in no time. I use to spend a half hour just on the hood by hand, know I with a DA 5-10 minutes and my hands are not tired. The GG DA is a great DA. Lifetime Warranty.

You won't regret the transition. Using a machine vs hand will save you time and the outcome will be better as well with serious defects.

I used to polish and wax by hand. The difference between detailing by hand as opposed to by machine is like the difference between walking to California from the east coast and taking a flight by jet plane. It'll make that much of a difference. Get a inexpensive DA to start with, and let your feelings determine how you take it from there. Believe me, you won't regret making the purchase.
 
Thanks for the advice so far. I'm just about to place my order, how does this look?

* GG polisher
* LC Hydrotech flat pads (2 x cyan, 3 x tangerine, 1 x crimson)
* Megs 105 & 205, 32 oz

I already have a red CCS pad from a previous purchase. Does that look like a good start or am I missing things that I'd need?
