Ok, by chance I came across a nice deal on some wheels. So much so that the 700.00 apiece price tag for forged wheels are being offered on closeout for 300.00 each with 5 year chrome warranty in 20 inch sizing. My wife says leave it alone, but darn it looks like such a delicious wheel. Only problem, well the tires aint cheap in 20's. What should I do ???

Dang those are big wheels and look like a pretty deep "dish". I don't know what they are normally called but slang for them is deep dish. How much are you looking for rubber + rims? That kind of depends. 300 per rim is super good, but if the rubber is like 600 a wheel, that makes a huge difference. They look good though, but she will attract attention in that SRX with some chromies. Will she mind the attention and will you mind the ones coming from GUYS?

tires arent all that much more expensive. and how often do you buy new tires anyways, rarely. that particular wheel looks almost the same in the general design but it would be bigger and probably look pretty good. but then again its your wifes car and she might not want to roll around on 20's in a caddy suv like a gangStaR lol

Does it ride like a typical caddy? Very soft suspension and great insulation from the road?

I wont tell you what I paid for the Iforged 18/19 combo. True 3-piece wheels custom built for the Vette. I have not had a set of stock wheels on any of my cars since I was 16. (thats more than 13 sets, some cars even got second sets when $$ were available to upgrade)

It would cost around 2 grand total for the set of 4 wheels and tires (Pirelli Scorpion Zero's) for the SRX. I suspect they wont be anywhere near as deep dish on the truck however. Truck is extremely quiet, other than the 8 speakers of XM radio. I wish it handled better, but I have to remember its NOT my car.

Hmm... I say go for it. Or put the money into a college fund. Your pick.

You are right ... and until I posted the pics never quite caught that. I hate to pass on such a great deal, but would be piss'ed to spend the $$ and they look almost the same.

college paid in full .... thanks to GP. Well, thats unless you are telling me something I dont already know, like #2 ????????????????? :p

Is it true that the larger size wheels have less rubber between the outside and the rim and therefore wear our faster? A guy told me he had 19" on his jag and he bent the rim hitting a speed bump becuase the tires are so much thinner than the stock 17".

LOL what is GP? Gran prix? Gambling on races eh? LOL, I don't know anything!!

It all depends on the tire. Like some big trucks have 15 in rims but a lot of tire, and then some of the compact asian cars have 15 in rims and low profile tires. It all depends on the look you want and how much you want to spend.

You can certainly help fund my 2 boy's college and I bet abrcrombe would appreciate some tuition!

Parents sure would. FAFSA and Calgrant and all that junk gave us no financial aid. And this girl who's mom is a chemist and dad is a anestesiologist got 6k a year. I know there are far more deserving people who could have used that money more, who got none! WTF?!

GP == Grand-Pa

In general as you go to a larger rim, you go to a smaller tire, thus the circumfrence of the tire/wheel is the same. (plus sizing) Your speedo is usually calibrated on this original sizing also.

The problem with custom wheels, well cheap custom wheels, is that they are cast wheels. As such then are cheap in design, and usually made of the cheapest aluminums. Thus they dent easily and can be damaged out of round with heavy potholes. With less rubber to absorb an impact, well you are certainly more likely to damage one.

These rims, 1 piece forged Evo's are basically a piece of billet aluminum that are cut (cc'd) afterwards. There strength and integrity are some of the best. I believe this wheel was originally a BC brand wheel, and they were purchased by Weld and renamed the Evo line.

Now with a three piece wheel (like my vettes) it actually combines both. It has a replacable/repairable barrel and forged center for strength and they are usually considerably lighter. Originally designed for racing applications, they have become much cheaper and are well regarded in custom applications.

Hmm... sounds like 3 piece are a good way to go. Still the priciest though? For Grandpa and Grandma, we started using G-pa and G-ma.

thats because he had low profile tires and hit a speed bump going way too fast...and he must have had weak wheels, definately not forged.

anyways killr the 6 spoke design is very similar like i said but i somehow missed the nice lip at first. that plus the chrome and how many inches bigger is going to look a bit different, but they arent bad looking wheels

Killer,
if you have spend it or you will forever wish you had..
