Hey guys,
My friend wants to clean up his neon - it is red like my car. He caught this disease from me. I already have him claying. No joke.
He wanted me to ask you guys - his bumpers no longer match the shade of red his car is.
What can he use? Ideas? Please?

Also, he won't polish, but he will clay and wax. For an OTC product, or something from AG I can give him, what wax do you recommend? I was thinking CK vanilla moose, as it may fill in some of the swirls.
Guys help me here.
He doesn't want a short lived carnauba.
Thanks!!

If it looks pinkish, maybe he/you need/s to compound it using the PC and and maybe a green Edge pad or similar LC pad. If it's paint peeling off, just peel the whole thing off and use PB's Trim Restorer. Hope this helps

Thank you, Joey.
(Hey, I got a new computer that WORKS again!!!)
It is an off shade of red, not pink. And he won't use the pc, and he won't let me near it. He thinks we are "anal" about our cars and swirls. That is a quote. Joke is on him!
Thanks though!!
Other ideas?
Waxes for him?
Luv,
lauren

About time with the computer! Congrats, and hope this one works good or better! My suggestion is a 1-stepper, but there's no guarantee that I'll work. Do you have OPS? give that a shot by hand and we'll see from there.

Joey

No way besides polish or repaint... tell him you will make it look better... and don't forget to seal it to keep it looking new

Sounds like the paint on the bumper is slightly oxidizing. For polishing by hand, a product like Klasse All In One is really good at restoring the color on faded or discolored bumpers. Can top with Klasse Sealant Glaze, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant or any long-lasting polymer-based wax.

I did a red Neon a while back with some oxidized and faded bumpers.

They weren't too badly faded but VM, with a terry applicator, and some elbow grease helped remove the oxidation and bring back some of the shine.

Wow - that is awesome! I thought of VM.
Thanks for sharing. Do you have any other shots of this vehicle?
Gratefully,

Thanks, here are some more shots of the Neon
Detailed Cars Pictures

...They weren't faded, pink like some I've seen but they were very oxidized and dull.

Good luck!

The bumper on my BMW looked like that. One of my free gifts was Clearkote Yellow Cream Wax that i had to try. Filled in the swirls and brought it back to black. Topped it with Souv and unless you look real hard it matches.
Gotta say it looks like we missed the boat while AG carried the line

JSR,
How much difference do you think there would be to use Vanilla Moose? That I have already, altho I could locate some yellow cream - what is the difference? Do you know?
Thanks so much for your input!!!!

Thanks! I used all Poorboy products on the paint - SSR2.5, SSR1, and EX

I've used both and VM has more cleaning abilities then CK Cream wax but Cream wax offers more protection.

great. he loved the photos - now let's see what i can get him to do to that poor neglected neon!!!

for polishing that out by hand, your best bet is the wolfgang polishin pal with a yellow pad and some duragloss 111. I think it was sparkie that removed a crapload of oxidation off of a tractor with it. ALthough it was used with the PC, I think this could work for you.

Don't know for sure. The ClearKote web site description is not very descriptive on how to use it or how to differentiate it from the glazes.

quote
Makes paint and plastic surfaces smoother.
Silicone free
end quote

My impression is that it has a LOT of fillers in it, not abrasives. I tried it because nothing else works and I did not want to put any abrasives on the bumper there. It is plastic, not metal, and I do not want to take any more of the color coat off and make it worse. Can't tell from your pictures but the Neon looks the same as mine, its wear, contamination and sun fade not oxidation. That flat surface at the back catches all of the junk that swirls around the back of our cars when they are moving, so its getting sandblasted. Kind of a mini spoiler. On my car thats what gets dirty first.
If I had one of the glazes I would have tried it first. Along with QuickShine, I wanted to order either the red or vanilla moose if AG still had them. I like carnubas and I am cautious about compounding my 14 year old paint anymore than I have already. It still has defects in the paint so I need a glaze to fill them underneath.
I would go ahead and try the vanilla and a wax on it. Perhaps we can work out a vanilla for yellow sample swap? I need to get down to San Diego eventually to vist my uncle.
