There has been a lot of talk on this board about megs mf system as well as surbuf and optimum mf pads. I have been doing a lot of reading which has peaked my interest on the subject. I would like to refine my process for the upcoming year as I intend to take on cars other than family members.

my process follows:
wash
clay
ultimate compound/wool or cutting pad (if heavy swirls are present)
m205/polishing pad
ipa wipedown
lsp

However during a previous sale I purchased optimum poli-seal from a few suggestions and partly due to my eagerness to try new products :props: I have yet to try it because I am not quite sure how to integrate it into the process.

Currently, I have three cars lined up to be detailed: 2004 acura cl, 2006 subaru legacy, and 2010 honda crosstour.

the acura is in the worse shape and will need full paint correction

the subaru has lots of swirling but will likely come out well with my current process.

the crosstour will only need minimal polishing/jeweling and an lsp.

Any suggestions on how I should tackle these three cars? I am definitely open to trying new products, especially if I can minimize the number of steps to complete the job.

Here's more information that will help you if you need it.

The Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System is another great product and works very well.

Do you currently have a polisher and if so what type; dual action or rotary?

Wool pads are designed for use with a rotary polisher. Foam pads work nicely on both.

Steps

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Compound
  • Polish
  • Wipe down
  • Sealant
  • Wax
Once the washing and claying steps are complete tape off those areas that could become damaged.

Taping-off and Covering Up

Polishes

One Step Product

Sealants

Wax

I use the Megs MF Cutting Pad with the D300. I use Optimum Finishing Polish on a Tangerine or Crimson HT pad. IME nothing finishes like foam.

Thanks for the suggestion, do you know how optimum fp compares to m205? Since you finish with that, I would guess they are similar in their cutting ability?

@BobbyG, Thank you for the post, I am familiar with many of those links. they are very helpful and I use them often as a reference.

I guess I should rephrase my questions.

In the case of the acura, is there anything I should try that would provide slightly more cut than ultimate compound?

For cars with minimal swirling, like the crosstour, I would like to be able to combine polishing and sealing. Would poli-seal work well for this or does it not contain enough abrasives?

I guess that would be helpful wouldn't it...

For now I am using a PC, but plan on getting the GG6 in the near future

I ask because you mention wool. Your not going to want to use wool with a PC

Theres a TON of good advice there ^

1) 105 would provide more cut IMO

2) I've never used poli seal, so all I can offer you is my opinion. Try it and see....do a test section and see what gives :)

Poli Seal is a one step product. It is a light polish and sealant. It will save a ton of time. Use on crosstour

OK, you're using a dual action machine and that narrows down the field considerably...:props:

Meguiar's Microfiber System will provide the level of correction correction you desire as well as a nice finishing wax. Take a close look at this system and I think you'll be surprised how much it offers the user.
