Like I stated earlier, I learned this the hard way a few years back. I wet-sand it and I went through the paint. The result looked very similar to the OP's picture.

Just to be clear I never wet sanded this.

Under magnification it looks just like the fractured etching except there are very small white dots instead of small cracks. They appear to be white just like the "cracks".

It's interesting that you can't even see the blemish if it isn't in direct sunlight ( it appears to be black under overcast conditions) so I'm not sure this went all the way into the primer.

It rained today so I couldn't take more pictures, but I will.

My apology. I am not implying that you did the sanding.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I just said that the blemish looked like something I ran across years ago. Everyone tends to remember his first major screw up (strike through) vividly and this was mine. I aggressively chased a bird bomb etching and ended up making it worse. This might have been the case.

I truly hope this is not the case for you. If it is then a re-spray is the only way to get rid of it. Good Luck.

I've seen bird droppings live pits in paint and pits would look more like dots instead of cracks.

You're still in the same situation in that abrading the paint will simply remove good paint and uncover more of the pits or "holes" in the paint.

Any follow-up?

:)
