I don't know how many have seen this. Being the car lovers that we are actions like this are just not acceptable. I think this car owner deserves our support in his quest to get his car purchased back by the dealership that abused it horribly. I know if someone did this to my car I would want all the help I could get to persuade the dealership to do the right thing.

I saw that earlier today. I'd like to know how he set up the recorder. I'd set one up every time I took my car to the shop after hearing about this

Wow that is horrible! If that was my car i would've been really pissed.

Wow, that video is all over the net now. Last I heard the owner of the dealership called the guy. However, the owner is on a fishing trip and asked the guy to wait till he returns on Friday. He even threatened to sue the car owner.

I would rather get a camera, mount it where it can be seen and point it right at the drivers seat.

That kinda says, "Don't be the next youtube sensation".

Having worked at a car dealership for a few months when times were tough (sales, not service) all I can say is this doesn't surprise me at all. IDK if this guy deserves a brand new car or whatever but they should certainly fix everything they broke for free and give him compensation for the extra wear they put on the vehicle doing burnouts and stuff.

I don't know how he got it to turn on and off...unless he had something that had capabilities of recording for several hours. I only dropped mine off for service one time. It was only a week old. I washed it a couple days later and there were three dents...two on top of the left fender and one in the same area of the hood. Not very deep but very noticeable when the light hits them just right. I had also let my wife drive it a couple days so it sat in a parking lot for a couple days so I couldn't know for sure when it happened.

That's the thing though...how do you judge how much wear and tear they put on it. The way I see it it's a 2010 Camaro S/S...low mileage. Everything considered...it would probably cost the dealership about 7-8,000.00...a hit I'm sure they would rather not take...but really for a dealership it's not that much money. Losing a few sales would hurt them a lot more. The guy could take him to small claims court and try to get any amount under 10,000.00. I doubt he would need a lawyer...all he would have to do is play that tape to a jury and I think he would get what he's asking for. If the owner is on a fishing trip that is a legitimate reason why nothing was done yet. He has the opportunity to come back and be the good guy...I would think this has been on the local news in the area. He has the opportunity to make this story end on a positive note...if I were him I would certainly take it.
It looks like they already shut down their facebook page...and I'm sure local media is having a field day with this. It's going to be interesting to see how this turns out.

With the technology today I don't think it would be that hard to do.

Agree. It's easy and can be fairly inexpensive. Prices for a hidden cam and audio range...$500 and up. If I had a car like this one I'd pay to have it installed.

Well...due to the overwhelming response on the internet I'm sure...General Motors who originally told the customer that it was between him and the dealership now says they are working closely with the dealership to make sure this problem is resolved to the customers satisfaction.
The dealership has been talking to the customer about buying back the car.

I think I'll have to remember this when when/if I take my car in for service.

Even if the dealership fixes the car or gives him a new one the damage is done. This was all over the internet and they hurt the reputation they had. If i lived in the area I'd remember this and stay away. If they had stepped up like they should have from the beginning it would have been a non issue for them.

I viewed the YouTube video earlier tdy...just tried to view it again. However, the site reads: "This video has been removed by user." I wonder if the bad press forced the dealer to settle up?

This is why I love the interwebs:

"UPDATE 2: According to Clark, the dealership has bought back the Camaro at a price somewhat above its value, and any proceeds from the transaction will be donated to charitable causes."

Good to hear.

What's the bet though that GM chewed the dealers a** off, and made them buy it back?

EASLEY, S.C. – Best Chevrolet has purchased a debated 2010 Chevrolet Camaro today and will auction of the vehicle for the March of Dimes in the coming weeks.

The vehicle in question has been the focus of a recent viral video created by a local man. The person who brought the car to the dealership secretly recorded discussions between two employees and later released a portion of the audio on the internet. Today, Best Chevrolet is releasing the entire 30 minutes of the audio to give the full version of the situation.

At the end of the tape, he drives the vehicle in a similar manner to the one that he complains about. He drives the car just as hard. A car of that style needs to be driven hard to test for the problem he stated. It is a high performance car and is not likely to be damaged in such a way.

In his own words, his vehicle already had been damaged at another location.

The vehicle in question was not originally purchased at the dealership nor ever worked on at Best Chevrolet. The vehicle was brought in for a diagnostic in September, but no work was ever recommend or performed.

Best Chevrolet takes all customer complaints seriously. The dealership prides itself on reputation and service. They are pleased to say we have reached a deal that ultimately will serve local charities

Shifting without using your clutch is not likely to cause damage, it's acceptable to call the customer a jackass, etc.

Wow!!!

Do they give a link to "the whole tape"? I don't think that dealership had any idea just how powerful the internet can be in a situation like this. They shut down their facebook page yesterday.
