Hey all. Just got my Porter cable xp in the mail! Cant wait to use it. I have a 2005 ford f150 black. I wash it one a week and try to wax it every 4 to 6 months. I have just been using an orbital buffer but feel that i need to try the xp out and get rid of some swirls.

The swirls are not to bad but medium. My question is what does every one reccomend I have the meguires 3 step process, I have meguires heavy swirl remover, I have the new NXT wax 2.O I have some wolf gang paint sealent. and some other meguires cleaner waxes and polishes. What does everyone recomend I do.

What pad to apply what.
What speed setting to use for each.

Remember I am new sorry for the dumb questions. I have seen alot of good things about the megs 205 and think I might get some of that.

Thanks for the input..

Brad

:welcome:

As always, start with a small test section, I do a section the size of 4 polishing pads in a square. Once you get that spot right, do that to the rest of the vehicle.

Try step 3 & 4 first, if it doesn't cut it start at 1.

1- White or Orange LC pad with Megs 105 or Ultimate Compound at speed 4-6.

2- IPA wipe to check results, look to see that the defects are gone (try to "look past" any polish induced marring)

3- White or Black LC pad with Megs 205 or Swirl-x at speed 4-6. All the defects should already have been corrected, this step is to refine any marring left by 105.

4- IPA wipe to check results, there should not be any swirls or marring, just the "uncorrectable flaws" like rock chips maybe a RIDS or two.

5a (optional)- Cleaner wax, prewax polish enhancer, glaze. If you want to, you can prep the surface with any one of a multitude of products. I like to finish with Pinnacle XMT 360, Poorboy's Polish with Sealant or Klasse All in One before applying sealant. It seems to help with durability when the paint is very well prepped (my car's wax always far out lasts any one of my friends who just do wash/clay/wax with my stuff).

5b (optional)- Sealant, a man made, synthetic wax. Generally more durable than natural wax and gives a more "hard candy coated" appearance vs carnaubas "wet glow" appearance. Many people apply a sealant then top it with wax for the best of both.

6- Wax, pick your favorite wax and put it on. From AG I suggest you try DP Max Wax, quite a steal for a great wax. For over the counter I suggest Autoglym HD, durable, cheap, repels water, looks great. It's VERY tough to beat... Get it at Walmart :xyxthumbs:
