New to the group here, have been busy with 3 cars. Have a DA polisher and have clayed, polished, sealed and waxed all three cars in the last couple of weeks. Pretty happy with the products I am using except the clay.

I have used Griot's paint clay and Speed Shine. At first I was hesitant to use the clay for fear of doing done real bad. Turns out I think the Griot's clay is not aggressive enough. Seems like I use the right amount of lube and have to press pretty hard to get any visible residue off (bug jerky, road tar, even unremoved wax). Has anyone else has this experience?

Are some clays mild and some more aggressive than others? I need to buy some more clay and want to see if there is something better. I think it would be OK to use another clay with Speed Shine? I really like the smell of SS and their sprayer.

Thanks for any and all comments,

I have had very good success with the clay substitute sponges (AG sells Elastrofoam but there are others). Was able to easily remove paint overspray. Fits better in my hand, no kneading (you just rinse to clean), less fear of dropping, little (if any) marring and aggressiveness seems to be controlled by pressure.

Use ONR or Dodo Born Slippy as lube.

Yes, there are varying aggressive clays.
