Hi,
Today was my first detail: It was a Mercedes-Benz C220 black 220,000km 1996.
Tool:
1 White polishing pad
1 Yellow cutting pad
Makita 9227c
S Poorboys SSR1/2/2.5/3 ( the whole line)
Result are not really great.. So I guess my combo SSR/Speed/pad is very wrong. Can someone help me out with a ''bottomline guide'' 8)
Thank very much!!!

LEF SIDE IS THE ONE DONE. NO BIG DIFFERENCE AS YOU CAN SEE..

Couple things, if you just went over the surface with each pad that may not be enough. You might have to go over a few times to get rid of your defects then move your way up to a finishing pad and finishing polish.

It that does not yield the results you are looking for you are going to have to step up to a better product like the Megs 105 and 205 or Menzerna SIP and 106fa just to start. I like to finish up with UF after using these products.

Also the yellow pad is very aggressive and might be part of the problem. I usually go with wool if anything more than an orange pad is needed. It cuts better than the foam and levels the pad better, not unevenly as a foam pad will. This in the end will give you a better finish.

I do not like going over 1500 rpm with my rotary. The faster it spins the more marring you are going to induce with your defect removal step and have to work that much harder in your finishing stages.

Here's what I think I did wrong:

1. SSR3 and 2.5 with orange pad
2. Didn't wipe down SSR3 and went to SSR2 or SSR1 with white pad
3. Didn't break down the polish( there was still some haze to the car).
4. I worked on Speed 3-4 ( which mean like 1800-2100 I think)

Thank for replying and helping me out!

I have 3 white pad, 3 yellow, 1 purple wool pad, and judt bought 1 orange pad. I should be good. I think the problem is more my technique ..!

I am sure some of it is technique, but as far as the haze goes you should be able to remove as to go down in polishes and pads, each step will take alittle more out as you go. I am not saying the Poorboys will treat you well but you might have to step up to the polishes I mentioned to really get you were you want to be. Let us know how to make out after trying a different technique. I would suggest to slow the buffer down though.

So I did a whole silver altima 2002 yesterday.

SSR2 With white pad at 900rpm( 3 pass) + 1500 ( 4 pass) + 900 (2pass)

and for hood and trunk I use another white pad with SSR1.

It came out good but it's silver, maybe if the car was black it would have been worse than that.

Do you guys see something wrong with that technique?

P.S: I normally do the whole door and move on to the next one. for roof, hood and bumper i do left then right.

I cannot say. I am not familiar using poorboys with the rotary.
