I am having trouble with all the choices for pads for the 3" Griots rotary. My Dad owns a bodyshop and im looking to buy him the 3" to assist in smaller areas that have been wet sanded. I have seen the CS Cyan pad but not sure if this is my best or most aggressive choice for 2000 grit sanding scratches. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AGO.

Griots Garage does not have a rotary, just a smaller 3" DA. This would be a great tool to have for smaller areas.

I would finish out with 3000 grit sandpaper or higher to make it easier to polish with this machine. Also you may want to look into mf pads as they will help with the initial cut on the sanded areas.

Hi,

Lake Country HydroTech pads would be a good match. Also, don't forget to get a bottle of a good compound to pair.

By the way, if your priority is removing sanding marks, here's my best guess:

Meg's Microfiber Cutting disc 3"
Meguiars DA Microfiber Cutting Discs, cutting pads, compounding pads

Meg's M101 Foam Cut Compound
Meguiars M101 Foam Cut Compound, meguiars compound, m101 compound, meguiars foam cut compound

Then you can get the Lake Country 3" Hydrotech Tangerine Pads for polishing after M101+MF.
Single 3 x 1.25 Hydro-Tech Tangerine Ultra Polishing Foam Pad

SUGGESTION 2 (almost the same but with GG3 Kit):

I would take the GG3 KIT:
Griot's Garage 3 Inch Orbital Polisher Kit, Griots Garage orbital buffer, spot polish kit, motorcycle polishing kit

Plus:

Meg's Microfiber Cutting disc 3"
Meguiars DA Microfiber Cutting Discs, cutting pads, compounding pads

Meg's M101 Foam Cut Compound
Meguiars M101 Foam Cut Compound, meguiars compound, m101 compound, meguiars foam cut compound

Can't go wrong with that, would be perfect for your need. Even, I would also (as stated above) try to finish down to 3000 grit.

That's my suggestion,

Thank you for reading!

Kind Regards.

Thanks guys. I'm usually just a lurker on this site and don't post very much. I knew someone could help me out.

Welcome mate. I was 'lurking' for long time but couldn't be happier after joining this community. I was afraid for being foreign and not a top pro like many here (I'll get there!), but reception here was very friendly. Welcome to AGO, hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Did I mention you would gather a polish? It's also as important to use with tangerine pads to finish your work.

Take a look here:
Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish, final polish, Meguiars polishes, car polish, 205 FP

With this Duo (M101 + M205), you will tackle virtually anything.

Also, those products are somewhat 'jokers', meaning they can be used in a lot of situations. For sure your father's bodyshop will be proud to have M101 + M205 and will use it to cut and finish almost any job to perfection.

Good luck,

Kind Regards.

I used GG 3 inch orange pads for the first time last weekend and liked them.
Have to see how long they hold up but it did the job for me.

Take a look at the Lake Country 3.5" Microfiber Pads

You want a THIN pad to maximize pad rotation under pressure with this tool to remove sanding marks.

I show a picture of them in action here,

For a compound, take a look at either the Wolfgang Uber or the Meguiar's M101 or M100...

Welcome to the forum...

Removing #2000 grit with the Griot's 3" Mini Polisher isn't impossible but you will need to use good technique. Be sure to mark the back of the backing plate to make it easy for your eyes to monitor pad rotation.

Here's a quick video that show how and why to mark your backing plate to see and monitor pad rotation while doing any correction or polishing steps.

Best way to remove 2000 grit sanding marks is to first start out with 3000 ungrit.
Then it will be very easy to buff out.
I once used the 3k ungrit to sand out a car that had severe swirls then used a DA and 105.
It really saved time by using this method.
Always have a few packs of the 3k in my bag.

Preaching to the choir as I agree.

It's faster, easier and safer to finish out at the highest grit level you can afford/attain than to finish out at lower grit levels and heat the paint up with the compounding process.

There's actually a section in my new how-to book on

I told my wife I wanted your book under the Christmas tree:)

Anyone know where I can purchase the Lake Country 3.5 microfiber pads? Autogeek is in backorder and other websites do not list that size.

Thanks for all the feedback thus far.
