Help with designing (portable) detailing kit

Hi....Are you an independent 'industrial designer' looking towards patenting "your" latest but greatest design/invention for the purpose of profit in your pocket? Or, are you employed by an 'industrial design' company/firm who in turn would own "your" latest but greatest design/invention and would turn it into profit in their pocket?

Either way, if I should give you any suggestions or ideas for your stated purpose, would I be gauranteed shares in your success (profit in my pocket; recognition as one of the 'industrial designers' of "your" design/invention)?

Just curious.

Um wow, that took me off guard.

To clear things up: I'm an industrial design student from Pittsburgh working on a long-term project to design a detailing kit (that was of my own choice, I'm very interested in the world of auto detailing). I wanted to get first-hand input from professional to amateur detailers in order to get a better understanding of the specific tools, procedures and the culture around auto detailing. In the end, this project will manifest into physical prototype and a collection of research behind it, but it will in no way result in profit for me or anyone else.

I'm really sorry if this somehow offended you, but I can assure you that the objective of the industrial design field is to get the most in-depth knowledge of the people and circumstances surrounding a product in order to make our designs as honest and useful to that audience as possible. I'm not trying to profit off of the information you guys are providing me, I'm just trying to get first-hand experience stories from the best people that would provide insight into my project.

On that note, I've been visiting local detailing shops, got my car detailed while shadowing and helping out the guys working on my car, and visiting local car shows. However, I haven't been able to find many people using portable (or at least semi-contained) detailing kits which is why I ended up posting on this forum. You guys have been super helpful to me and I really appreciate the feedback.

So no, if you're expecting some kind of payment from me in exchange for advice, I really can't offer that. Just as I'm sure professional detailers on these forums don't expect payment for the advice they give other detailers here. I just wanted to start a conversation.

You can have info from me and 99.9% of this forum for free so don't worry about it :) I really lol when I saw the other post, maybe it's just me, I help the competition in my area if they have a question I can help them with, but that's just me...

Agreed. Discussion forum communities like this one wouldn't exist if there weren't people willing to "pay it forward" and help others without monetary compensation.

I'm willing to help wherever/however I can. Especially in this case, I have a cousin who is about to graduate #1 in his class at an industrial design school in Chicago, and I am a business management/administration student myself so I can understand the importance of having help trying to succeed in that kind of setting.
