Well Canon is having a refurbished sale and currently my wife has the base lowest end Canon eos rebel dslr. It's on its way out and I need help. She is not a pro and just likes taking pictures. I'm looking at the t3i the sl1 and the t5i I'm thinking about shooting for the middle. She was set on the t3i and fine with it but the sl1 seems like a step up.

I don't know much about cameras but can any more experienced people help me out?

The SL1 is getting lots of love for its smaller size. If your wife has smaller hands she might appreciate the size. Lenses will interchange between all the models you mentioned (the newer STM models focus really fast and are great for video with their silent motors).

All 3 are great entry level cameras. Personally, I'd go with the SL1.

Good luck.

It's mostly for my wife but I'll for sure read up. I need to start getting good pictures of my work. Thanks for the link.

I ran across a Nikon coolpix L820 barely used. are these decent cameras? I've been shooting with my cell phone.

I suppose anything could be better than a phone, but I don't know much about cameras. I've also mostly been using my phone mostly.

The only advantage to the L820 is the long optical zoom lens. Other than that, a cell phone is just as good.
