Today, I was correcting the paint on a Lexus when the backing plate to my Rupes 15 broke off and went flying across the garage. When I recovered it, I noticed the bolt was still inside yet broken in half. When I looked at my polisher I noticed the other half of the bolt was stuck inside the part it screws into. I can't use my polisher and it's less then two months old. When I called Autogeek I was told I need to contact Rupes to have it fixed. My boss had his wife call to expedite this situation and I received an email from Jason. My question is, how long is it going to take to have this thing up and running again? I baby my machine and I'm sure the bolt was defective. I really need help because we do many paint corrections daily and I have grown attached to this machine. Thank you.

Wow that sucks. I heard the backing plates are on there really tight. This might be the result of it being overly tight.

One of the downsides to Rupes ownership is that the only repair facility is at the factory which is on the opposite side of the world for us Hawaii residents.

From what I understand you polisher is not damaged, the problem is that half the bolt is stuck Inside the unit?

I remember a few years back there were infomercials for a kit that allowed you to remove broken screws and bolts, same problem you have. I don't know if this can still be purchased or not, but surelly there are places you can go to have this done without having to send you polisher half way around the world.

Here's the result of a search querry I just did, maybe you can find something that will work for you:

https://www.google.ca/#q=extracting+broken+bolts

I just watched the video regarding the bolt extractor. Very easy to do. I searched at our local hardware store and single extractors sell for 5$ and kits from 20$ and up.

They did not have left handed bits but that is not really a requirement, more of a good option.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming the bolt is flush? Sometimes you can just drill it the a LH drill bit to remove a bolt. You have to punch the bolt dead center first though. A bolt this thin is very tough.

I have a feeling if you keep making enough noise about it a resolution will come.

Update: Autogeek's customer service is excellent! I received an email with a UPS 2nd air postage on it and mailed my buffer today before I went to work. This kind of customer service is the reason I will always buy from them. Thanks guys for all the help!

If you contacted us and already spoke to Jason, you'll be promptly taken care of.
