Hi guys im new here so take it easy on me. I got these stains on my wheels and wondering if sanding is the only way to remove the stain ? I've tried polishing and it looks like the wheel cleaner ate thru the clear coat. The wheels are a polished lip but not sure why type of clear coat if any is on them. It apprears the wheel cleaner sat too long and messed up the wheel. Any help is appreciated

Did you try clay bar it?

Perhaps 0000 steel wool then polish?

Is it etched? If you cannot feel at etch with your fingernail and it is a stain on the surface, I would try to clay it. Then perhaps try to test the 0000 steel wool and polish it out.

Tough angle and I am not very experienced with a wide variety of metal stains. So just my 2 cents.

Yea ive tried to polish it with wax aluminum polish chrome polish. Ill try clay bar tonight and see if that makes a difference. Ill also try to get a picture in better light so you can see the discoloration.

Looks like you may have damaged the clear coating. i DO NOT recommend #0000 steel wool, because unlike sand paper, it does not have a uniform cut... you can hold it weird and create gouges.

If its clear coat, you're best bet is to strip it down and polish it. Or go reclear it.

If its chrome, its gona get expensive =\

Those wheels have clear coat failure. I'm 100% sure. Only fix is to have those re-powder coated or painted. Been there, done that.

Here's my version:

Go with a reliable powder coater. Any "paint" won't last very long.

IMHO it comes from letting non neutral wheel cleaners dry on the clear coat.

Yes the cc is gone so just like your car panles you can't do anything but repaint or in this case remove and polish.

IT cant be paint cuz when i polish them with chrome polish black comes off on the cloth.

The pics don't make it easy, but that looks like clear coat failure to me. I'd guess you're seeing black because you actually are polishing some of the bare alloy underneath.

Any chance you can take some more straight-on pics...higher res as well?

Looks like clear coat go bye bye !!!
I have chrome wheels and as soon as the flaking starts ( I have a truck and I know chrome failure will start ) then I will go with powder coating. Also as a bonus you can pick a color that would match up with your car.
Just a option.

Here you can see the transition from aluminum to paint. Thats why i say these are not painted. I got more pics but if u guys want better ones ill have to charge up the dslr.
