Thank you guys for a great site to learn from. I found yall looking for a way to bring some life into my 1987 Ford Ranger. Most of you would be ashamed to drive it the way it is but its my baby. There are many (thousands?) chips, scratches and missing paint. I am not going for show but rather make what paint it there look better. Lots of perment water spots and etching? if that is what you call it.

I don't have a DA yet but plan on one in the future. I just started on the hood with Meg's Ultimate Compound and have the hood about half way done (at least good enough for me). I started with Meg's #7 first then Ultimate Compound and applying it with walmart terry applicators.

Here is a pic of what I am working with but it really don't show the paints condition that well. If you look close at the top of door you can see some paint missing where the drivers arm always set on it. Its rougher than you can see in the pic.

Killer truck. Welcome to the forum. Stop with the hand application and get a DA. You don't need to spend a bunch. Get a DA of your choice they all work fine, a few pads, all in one cleaner wax and you'll accomplish what you set out to do.

Welcome! and nice truck! I have had three rangers two 1990's and a '93. I would drive one now if the kids would stop growing. It sounds like you're doing the right thing joining this forum and reading and reading some more. Good luck with your "baby", she deserves some love.

Welcome to AGO! I must say.. you have a quite the badass name. Henery Hawk.. anyhow, that's a truck you don't see everyday!

:welcome: To Autogeek Online Henery!! :props:

Welcome!

I've had several Rangers, and loved them all (except the one with the small V-6). You'll love yours even more when you get the paint looking its best with the advice and material from AG.

Welcome to AutogeekOnline! Very cool truck.

Welcome aboard Henery, is that single stage paint your working with? Rmagnus is right, a DA will save you so much time and do a better job than you can by hand. Your arms are gonna look like the Hulk's after you compound that whole truck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Yes it is single stage and I think it is going to be alright. My dad owned the truck for 20yrs so once he bought a new truck I got his, haha. He bought it with 50,000 on it and only put another 26,000 on it in 20yrs. About 6-7yrs ago he swapped the 2.0 for the 302 with a auto. Fun truck but I am glad I dont have to drive far for work.

My real name is David, I just have always liked the cartoon chicken hawk.
