Did a little more on it tonite, and it looks like I should have clay-ed it first. Even after polishing its still feels rough, well like specks of roughness. I will pick up a clay kit sometime this week and give it another go.

IF that truck has single stage paint that is oxidized, that means the paint has been neglected to the point the paint has oxidized. (Just call me Sherlock Holmes).

Point being any time a paint finish is neglected that long it's also going to need to be decontaminated.

Here's the deal with oxidized single stage paint, remove the oxidation first and then clay the paint, otherwise you'll simply load your clay up with dead paint.

So while in most cases you clay before your polish, with oxidized single stage paint you clean the paint before you clay.

Well a little update. I have an extra vehicle (Suburban) so I dont have to drive the truck which allows me to leave it in the shed to work on it. I have the hood and drivers side polished as far as I am going to go. I have went inside at least 10 times when my arm gets tired to buy a DA, I add it to the cart but never buy, haha.

Is any sealant wax going to prevent water spots? I did a coat of Meg's cleaner wax a few months ago and after the first rain while at work where ever the beads of water were it turned the paint from red to pink. I would hate to go thru all this work and have it happen again. Granted I had never wax or anything before ( I was one of those guys) and all I did was rub it everywhere, not working it at all.

Thanks guys I have learned a lot from all of you, lots of talent here to learn from. When its all said and done I will post some pics.
 
Mike, since you seem to be the resident expert. But please if anyone has a opinion feel free.

Would a product like rejex (or any of the sealants) protect my paint from type III water spots. The pic you show of of type III water spots look like it could be a pic of my truck.

This is my daily driver and being in Florida you know we get quick showers and them sun after and I would be unable to dry the truck after the rain. I just hate to see it go back to the way it was before after all this work.
 
I finally finished with the polish and put a coat of rejex on. If the rain holds off I will get another coat on in the morning. The truck looks much better now, far from a show truck but good enough for me. I had to live with a lot of the problems because there just is not enough paint on it.
 
Everyone like pics, its not the quality you guys put out but it will work for me. I could have gotten it much better with a machine but whats the fun in that, haha.
