Hi everyone!!

I'm probably an odd ball here. I'm a 57 year "young lady". I recently bought a 2015 Lincoln MKC and decided to learn a little bit about detailing to figure out what I want to learn to do myself and what I want to pay someone else to do.

I don't understand a lot of the acronyms and lingo, but find a lot of the threads/discussions very interesting. I'm learning something new with every thread that I read. I especially like the product reviews.

You 'guys' are amazing!!

Anyway, I'll be lurking around and if I have a question, I'll definitely post.

Don't know that you're all that big of an oddball around these parts. ;) I've got a year on ya', and I'm FAR from the oldest one hanging around these hallowed halls. :)

Pull up a comfy chair, there is plenty to read, plenty to learn.

To tell ya' the truth... there really isn't anything detail wise that you shouldn't be able to do with that new Lincoln yourself. First thing I'd recommend is a DA machine like the Griot's Garage buffer (GG6). That with a dozen pads and you'll have a great start.

Combine that with an easy to work with compound and/or polish plus a sealant and you're good to go. :)

Depending you where you are, (just let us know where that is) and you'll likely be able to find a fellow AGO member that'll be happy to show you the ropes so to speak.

But most of all... have fun doing it! :D :dblthumb2:

You're not alone in those demographics - I'm a year older than you and also female! Same story line as you, I bought a 2015 Lexus last May. I declined the dealerships paint/fabric protection package to save $1K, and started lurking numerous detailing forums, youtube videos, reading everything I could find - because I knew I had to learn how to properly care for this car.

It's funny, I remember getting my last car (2005 Impala) and running my hand across the paint thinking "it's too bad it can't stay like this forever". At that time I didn't think twice about running it through the car wash. Needless to say, it didn't stay shiny, nor slick and smooth for very long. :nomore:

Well, my RX is 11 months old now, and the paint is *still* shiny, slick and smooth..it feels almost soft. Thanks to all the guys and gals who freely post here, I learned from their trials and tribulations and found it surprisingly easy to keep new paint in like-new condition; just use proper wash methods, quality products, and take your time.

I hope you have as much fun caring for your new car (inside and out) as I do!

Thanks Tex!... Unfortunately I'm in a rocking chair while I recoup from total knee replacement. always something. At any rate, I can't *wait* to get detailing again!

Last year I bought a HF DA and various detailing products, my brothers let me work on their daily drivers to learn - and while my results were not perfect, both cars came out beautifully (one was my old Impala, how bitter-sweet that was). Then my mom wanted her car polished, and dad, my nephews...haha.

The past 8 months my brothers have been busy restoring a '72 Nova SS - and just before my knee went out they asked if I would polish it out. They're anxiously waiting on my recovery - and I'm salivating at the thought of starting that project! Will document the project and post results .. good or bad!

I could have used those acronyms a couple of weeks ago. I finally figured out what APC was!! :laughing:

Hey, while I'm here, I've got a question.

I ordered CarPro DLux to seal/protect the black plastics on the MKC's exterior. Come to find out, everything that "looks" like metal on the exterior is really plastic. Some looks like chrome and some looks like brushed aluminum. Can I use the DLux on those plastics as well?
