hello everyone on the board, i am a newbe here and i hope to learn all about detailing .
i have 2006 ford f150 stx and i have found some little rust on the roof of my extended cab. it looks like a magnet was once on the roof and scratched the paint down to the metal. not much rust, but would like to get it repaired before it starts to spread. how can i fix this without repainting the roof?.i fixed some scratches on the bumper. i used 2000 grit over the scratch and compound the area. after that i polished it and couple coats of wax. now on the roof , since the scratch is down to the metal, will i have to use clearcoat over it.

Hi turkee56,

You added your first post to an old Introduction thread started by a different member so I moved you post and created for you your very own "Introduction Thread", that's kind of the normal way to do things on a forum.

IF paint is missing and metal is exposed, then the correct way to fix the problem is to add more paint to the bare metal.

If you polish the metal till it's real shiny, and then polish it ALL the time and keep it waxed or sealed with a quality wax or sealant you can prevent it from becoming rusty but we're talking about polishing and waxing often, as in every week or so.

Since it's on the roof of a truck, which means climbing up into the back of the truck with your products often, my guess is you're going to want a longer lasting solution.

Maybe take it to a body shop and ask them to paint the roof or spot paint the affected areas, or do it yourself.

:)

thanks mike,

Hi Turkee. I answered your question on another thread. I didn't know you had another one. lol. :)
