Hey guyz, just wanted to get some more opinions before I buy, I'm planning on ordering some HIDs soon, I found some for $200, I just trying to figure out what color. I'm thinking either 8000 or 10000. The 10000 have a purple hint to it, which I'm leaning more to, but the 8000 are blue, which would look tight on my white car, still purple would be very exotic looking. I actually found a site that had 30,000, it was like pure bright purple, mainly for show. Tell me what you think.

get 6k and i know a guy that can get them for you for 275 shiped but it comes with a lifetime warenty

10000K HIDs are a waste of money. They are useless in the rain and are just bling bling. Anything above 6000 is actually pretty pointless for actual usable light. I won't buy anything higher than 5200 personally for that reason. Seriously though, ask anybody who knows anything about HIDs and they'll tell you that 10000 are a total waste of money and you will regret it.

Send this guy an email. I bought my HIDs from him a few years ago. They were McCulloch ballasts and never gave me any problems whatsoever. He sells the color kits that you will want to get too. $200 is a good deal for HIDs, but not if they are 10000K lights. Get quality if you are going to spend money on that kind of thing.

I've had 4300K (stock), 6000K (white with hint of blue) then 8000K (more blue than white) on my car. I changed it back to 6000K after driving for few months with 8000K. Higher you go, less the output :)
6000K, imo, would go well with your car

Ask the seller if the kit is DOT approved and legal for sale in your state. All aftermarket kit were and believed to still be illegal.

Doesn't the new zo6s come with the purple hids, I really like that look.

go with 6000... if you get the 8000 or 10000 make sure u get fog lights because u wont be seeing much. get on the hidplanet forum and ask them about what u should do. when i had my integra i bought the 8000k without knowing the visibility of it. i installed it and it was better than stock but not much. so i saved up some more money and talked to a few guys on their forum and they refered the 6000k kit. so i purchased it and used as my brights... the road looked like the sun was out. good luck with the install. and enjoy whatever u get.
it is worth it.

E.D- its sound like your buying a kit, imho dont buy a kit, that junk....
if you really want HID's go retrofit(Period) that the only way unless in japan or some models have option to upgrade and you can buy the complete housing and hids....
most bmw, lexus, porsch have 4300 which is listed as pure white the most usable light output but you may notice on some of these vehicle diff color that because of the cut off... Go to this link HIDplanet.com and they have a forum you can research and see what im talking about, i always recommend this to anyone who doesnt know better(no dis) again this aint cheap put if you wanna play you gotta pay...

I heard about that too. I think if he goes with 6k, it should not be a problem, where 8k, or 10k would really show off, and might be a reason to pull you over. Once again, get 6k(if you are planning to use it for driving), it has brighter output. Just my $0.02

As far as i am aware it illegal across the US to use/install HID's unless it came from the factory...period

That's why I recommended 6k, they are barely noticable.

Our LX470 has HIDS, bright as hell. Neighbor down the street has a C6 Z and his sure as heck isn't purple at night lol. One of the reason for the law is b/c to many people were installing crap aftermarket kits that were not only causing fires and electrical burnout, but more importantly weren't aimed correctly. If your off by just a millimeter it throws the whole spectrum of light off from where it should be. Heck I get flashed once in awhile by people in the Lexus truck and those are correctly aimed factory lights.

McCollough or however it's spelled is one of the few reputable ones, I know people with my truck (Explorer/Mountaineer) used them and came out great. If you get normal 4300-6000 ones you should be fine regardless of the law as they will look factory spec as long as aimed correctly. But if you go to higher ones that are blue/purple believe me cops will pick you out.

Thanks guyz for all the insight, I'm glad I asked before I went purchased anything. I'll take your advice and stay under the 8,000 range. I post some pics when I put them in.

Yeah, HIDs are illegal if they didn't come with the car, but so are aftermarket exhausts if you really read the motor vehicle code in your state. Modifying anything on your car is illegal these days it seems. If you have projector headlights then the HIDs are a good improvement though. If you have reflector headlights then you need to do something about that before you go blinding people with scattered light. Check out hidplanet to get more information about HIDs and what the right and wrong way to go about putting them in is. They will be able to tell you what the safest way to install them in your car is and whether or not the kit you are getting is worth buying.

I Have HID McCollough 8000k In my truck and i love them, i wish it would have been one of the first things i did to my truck. when it gets dark the light output is just amazing, havent seen another vehicle's lights go farther than mine, or be as crisp or clear on the road. i will say that they are not the best in the rain, but very rarley do i need to turn my foglights on because it is raining that hard.

Here is a pic

And BEFORE Aiming Them, They are much better looking now.

Also with the HID Kits, if you only have a single beam headlight you will loose your High beam, but these things put out so much light there should never be a need for highbeam. Also my headlights are projectors and have a purplish tint over the headlight beam so i get kinda a bluish, purple look to mine.

PM me if you want more pictures or if you have any questions.

Actually this is quite incorrect. A cat-back exhaust with a CARB number is legal in all 50 states. Changing/Remioving an unfailed catalitic converter is illegal.

As for the HIDS, they are all illegal in aftermarket because the kits were not designed with difussers and other items to stop glare and some can introduce light directly into an oncoming cars sight. Until DOT approved, your could harm someone and be found negligent. Also reading your insurance policy might give food for thought, as illegal aftermarket parts can void your protection. (now I admit highly unlikely) If you car offered them as an option, you might be able to pickup the kit at junkyard or thru aftermarket.

My Z06 and my SRX both have HID's or Xenon lighting. It is a tremendous difference over old yellow hallogens. I find even before, the clear (no color) PIAA bulbs make a nice legal difference. That said, none of the cars are purple and maybe, just maybe have a tinkle of blue.

I myself am an avid fan of HIDs. I've researched it for quite some years now, and have completed a retrofit myself. The mazda6 headlights came with HID in Europe and Japan as an option, but mazda utilized the SAME headlight housing for both, just different projectors.

Mazda just made HID's optional on the 2006 cars in the United States. They were not options in the U.S. for 2003-2005, but they were available for the European and Japanese models. So to save money, Mazda utilized the same headlamp assembly, brackets, etc. for the halogen and HID models. It was just a matter of swapping the projectors.

If you get it from the factory, it comes with auto level.
Also,
The Mazda6 was designed to carry the E46 projector. The holes are already pre-drilled into the bracket / carrier.
If you purchase single xenon e46 projectors, they're pretty much a bolt-on. E46 projectors are the same one used in certain e46 chassis BMW's (hence the name).

HIDPlanet sells single xenon ECE e46 projectors by themselves and in a package. The package includes OEM hardware (Hella Ballasts, mounting boxes, philips OEM 4300k bulbs, etc.) at this link: HIDPLANET

As far as color goes, what you SEE on the street is based on projector. The blue and purple flickering high-end cars that you see on the street all use a 4300k bulb from the factory. The color flicker is created by the PROJECTOR, not the bulb.

A picture example:
bosch_cutoff_watermarked.jpg

(Taken from HIDPlanet.com)

See how the bottom part is BRIGHT white? That's the bulb color. As you move your eyes up the picture, do you notice the concentrated blue and purple at the cutoff line? THAT cutoff line is what gives the purple and blue flicker you see on BMW's, the new corvettes, TSX'es, etc. and it's based on projector optics. There are mods you can do to increase that color as well.

I hope this has helped you out some. Anything else you need, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] or post in the thread!
