Is anyone here detailing vehicles to get them ready for the show room for Lexuz, BMW, Audi, Benz, ect. If you are how did you go about getting the business?

id like to know if the dealerships actually do any hiring for quality detailers as well... the lexus dealership in my town is apparently hiring a detailer, but my knowledge of what they look for in "detailers" is typically the guy who says he can do a full detail in 3 hours or less.... their showrooms never really have good enough lighting to see imperfections anyway lol

There is a Cadillac, Mercedes, Lexus dealership where I get the service on my Escalade Detail truck.Whenever I get service ther I have a standing order "NO WASH" for my vehicle. They do have a couple guys that can buff and remove scratches etc. Because they had to remove them off my vehicle after running it through their wash. I don't really think that they are as indepth as alot of us on thr forums are. They mainly want the vehicle to look good for the sale!

I know of a used high end dealership in Greensboro, NC that we see twice a year at some local races. I watched and older gentleman this year who worked for them actually scrub a dirt spot on a Porsche with his California Duster!!! When I walked by later and caught the suns reflection on ALL of his cars, it didn't matter about the finish because they all had major swirls.

You're right about the showrooms. Most of them are not good for catching swirl reflections. I'll bet the majority of dealerships put on a glaze that's heavy with fillers too. They just don't have time to pay their cleaning guys to do an 8 hour detail. You would have to work really cheap to get that biz.

But then it always depends on the owner. Keep asking.

I managed a shop in Vegas that did lots of high end detail work for a few dealerships. To get into it, you really need to know someone and the person you know wants your service. Otherwise they will just hire cheap labor to save some money and just get the job done as quick as possible. Ask around, pass out business cards and show off your work and you should be able to get a dealership to test you out and show off what you can do. :xyxthumbs:

As far as New Car dealerships there are two ways they go as far as mine we sublet out all our new car preps and when a car comes in for service the same company washes the cars. The other way is in house were the detailers work for the dealers and are on the payroll of the dealships. Most dealers use a sublet this way they don't have to pay workmans comp and paid holidays etc.Plus the dealer won't pay the kind of money a private detailer wants. Our sublet company is on site and gets paid per car and the way business been for the last year hardly and new cars are being sold.We carry Volvo.Jaguar,Range Rover and Infiniti. So i guess you can call us a high end dealership.Plus when a car is sold they want the car ready to go ASAP even if they sell it at 9:30PM they don't want to have to wait for a private detailer to come to the dealership.

I use to work at a dealership, and like some say, most dealerships are looking at detailers on a production scale. They want someone who can get the car done inside and out in under 3 hours, for less than $12-15 an hour.

Now on the flip side, unless your able to pick up an exotic dealership, that actually pay someone a few hundred to do a show room finish job on a car then thats a bit hard. I actually talked with a guy who use to own a detailing business a few years ago that ran the contracts for a Ferrari dealership in my area. He said he was generally paid between $300-500 per car, since that dealership keeps a very professional and limited staff of detailers.

Jesse (Apollo Auto) is the only one I've seen who has been able to get a dealer to pay what is required to do the kind of work we do. 99% of the dealers out there could care how nice they look and they just want the car clean yesterday at the lowest possible price.

Have a couple friends who worked as 'detailers' (if thats what you could call them) as a part time job while going to school. Said they were very low paid. Dealerships want it done as cheap as possible. They said every dealership they worked for also only used AutoMagik. That in itself is reaon enough to stay away.

I was looking to do the High End car like a CL 55 AMG, IS-F, SL 500 ect along those line.

Doesn't matter if it's a saturn or a MB the dealerships all work the same.In and out as fast as they can for as cheap as they can get it done for.Drive over to one of the local dealers and feel them out on how they do there details

I went to the 2010 new car show recently. I was embarassed at how pathetic the whole line of top-end cars(Benz/Porsche/Jag,etc.) looked.

I was recently at the dealership that sells these, and I asked them if they knew the only thing between their cars (especially 80-100K used cars) and a sold sign--me.

Won't spend a nickel to make a dime.
