I have one on the way.. I did do a search.. And did find some good info..
But any recommendations on how to use it how to learn how to use it.. Thanks..

Always remember that it is a tool that allows you to ESTIMATE how much paint you have to work with

There is one that is made by "all-sun", these are the specs:

This tester is designed to not-destructively measure the thickness of non-magnetic coatings (including
paint, enamel, plastic, epoxy, etc) on iron, steel or aluminum.

  • Measuring Range: 0.0mm to 2.0mm, 0mil to 80mil
  • Accuracy: 2%rdg ±0.1mm, or 2%rdg ±4mil
  • Note: Accuracy is guaranteed at the operating temperature of 23°C±°C and relative humidity of not more than 75%.
  • Resolution: 0.1mm/1mil
  • Power Supply: 1 x 3V button cell, CR2032 or equivalent (Not included)
  • Operating Environment: Temperature: 0-40°C
  • Relative Humidity: <80%
  • Temperature Coefficent: 0.05x(2%rdg±0.01mm,or 2%rdg±4mil)/°C (<18°C or >28°C)
  • Storage Environment: Temperature:-10°C to 50°C Relative Humidity:<80%
  • Size: 6.9 x 3.8 x 2cm
  • Weight: About 23g (including button cell)

For $18.00 USD, I think won't hurt to try it :).

Research on the net and view videos. There are several that show how to calibrate and use it. Good luck.
