Hit and Run - Fantastic!

Sorry that this happened to you.

This always causes me to experience immediate and thorough revulsion...
Seriously wanting to squash the squicks responsible for damaging any of my personal possessions...
Who then, unabashedly, will run off to hide in their own little private Hell.

The amount your premium could go up is no where near what you'll spend out of pocket. And that quote seems about twice as much as what it should coat. But hard to tell what it will really need from the pic. Looks like something I could live with after the sanding and buffing you did. But hey, it's your car and your money.

Wow, I would go for a $500 or $250 deductible and screw the car fax. If the damage isn't to your frame and is only cosmetic, how much can it hurt? I admit, I'm clueless on car fax damage, but I would argue that it was only cosmetic and that has nothing to do with the longevity of the car. To pay that extra amount to keep this out of the car fax report is crazy.

I had 2 accidents on my last car and it never went to carfax.

Mine was a total loss and I repurchased and rebuilt it. It never showed on Carfax - all that shows is one owner - me. I still have the report as a souvenir. I don't plan to sell the Cobra, but this opened my eyes to holes in the system. The same insurance company insured it without a hitch.

I've found that body shops tend to always quote a higher rate when you come in off the streets. If the insurance company was involved, it may very well be a lower estimate because they know the true cost of the labor and materials involved.

To the OP, many of us have suffered something similar, even though we try and avoid the idiots. Someone put a small door ding in my 1 week old Sequoia (it's 1 yr. old now) even though I took the required precautions. Some people are just pieces of... well I won't say, but you know where I'm going with it. I'd be pissed for many reasons, especially since the $1k could be used for something better. There's a bright side and that is you didn't catch them and choke them to death and end up in prison.

Good luck with the repairs.

Daughter-in-Law stopped by our house last night, she just went through the same thing. She has a 2013 Camaro after going into a store and returning to her car someone had the good manners to open their door into her fender leaving the paint cracked and chipped and a dent to go with it.

Hang in their buddy....

:)

I too had someone bend in my fender last week, got the dent taken out via paintless dent repair, and still have to touch up/wetsand/polish. So far 120 bucks out of pocket for someones mistake.

In my experience shops doing insurance work have higher estimates and they still have you paying your deductible. It can obviously go both ways but, IME I've seen dealerships and bodyshops give inflated estimates and the insurance company doesn't know much better and may be doing buddy deals with the shops as well. Why else would an insurance company recommend a shop or a insurance Co. and body shop be working in the same building like a local one here, has a rental car Co., insurance Co., and a major dealership owned body shop located in one building. When a shop is getting paid out of pocket by the customer they usually know they can nickel and dime them above the cost of parts and labor. For that quote, and maybe less, any shop around here would repaint a hood and blend the fenders. And this area is cheap when it comes to paint & body, and not even the best quality. Now if that is to a quarter panel respray and blending the surrounding panels, then maybe the quote is honest. But from your pic it looks like an experienced professional painter could blend the repair into the quarter and not need to charge more than half that amount. But I guarantee that for $950 they will install swirls and holograms for "free".;)

Some idiot hit and ran my car... I had no idea of the incident until late at night I found my car hit.

I had hopes that a dent wizard guy could fix it so I did some wet sanding and hit it with FG400 and got out most of the scratches some deep ones still remain... and overall the panels are going to be to be painted due to the extent of the damages. Totally sux.

Got several quotes and all came in around the same. My insurance deductable is basically the same as I was quoted, so I'm going to just pay out of pocket.

Some idiot just cost me $950.00 cash...

Gotta love people....

Had something similar happen in my truck a few years back. Backed into me in a parking lot and left. Didn't notice until the next morning. Called police and because I had a police report of hit and run the insurance waved my deductible.

That was very nice of them. I wonder how many other companies would do that. Which insurance company was it? What was the deductible?

That is(should be) standard protocol anytime a police report is involved and or the insurance Co. sees that it is a no fault situation. I put my bike down coming off the interstate and the insurance Co. saw it as a no fault accident because I explained to them the conditions and how the off ramp was unsafe due to debris buildup. I'd much rather save money than worry about something possibly showing up on a vehicle report.

Had this happen to me before and it was so infuriating. Best of luck with everything.
